my best friend and his Blazer got me into car audio you could hear that truck's stereo a couple blocks a way it had 1 12" pioneer and a 1000watt amp, and also his uncles Integra was nice to that was a little bit louder it had 2 square kicker comps and a 4000watt amp

I originally got into car audio when I was 12. I heard my best friends older brothers car with 2 10s and was hooked. The summer before my sophmore year in high school I worked all summer to put a Kicker full range box, an IX702, an IX252, and an Impulse set of coaxials in my 1991 Ford Ranger. I didn't even get my license til the summer after my sophmore year! Lol! That summer I started working for that shop! I was in heaven. Lol!

The day I had my truck done the Kicker rep for the store brought the Kicker Blazer. It had 9 15'' XPL's, 6 ZR1000's and 3 ZR240's with dual 6.5s and 2 original 10'' SoloBarics. I was hooked!

I worked at the shop for 3 years while going to high school and taking 3 semesters of criminal justice classes at the community college before deciding college wasn't for me. I decided to go to R.I.T.O.P in Watertown, MA when I was 19. I had been installing at the shop for 2 1/2 years prior so this just helped further my education and I loved it! While at the school a Boston Acoustic rep brought in a SQ Monte Carlo that was amazing! I don't remember all that was in it but I just remember how accurate every instrument in the song was. It was a Creed song he played.

I want to reproduce or surpass that car with my Explorer this summer. Hopefully I can get to a few meets. Im wanting to make the June 28th show in Canton, Illinois.

My background is in home hi-fi and I pursued the car audio part of fidelity without hearing a true SQ vehicle at first. All I remember is that when I was old enough to start driving and/or listening to my friends "system"s that I was disgusted at how the subwoofers performed (a LOT of people used to - and still do - just add subs to their factory speakers).

I did hear a few SQ vehicles back in 2000 that impressed me. Jason Ewing's(sp?) VW GTI was very impressive and the best thing about his setup was it was the most life-like over the full spectrum. 99% of the other SQ cars had pathetic bottom end performance.

Actually sitting in my friend and team mates ( James Webster ) Kia Rio a few years back got me wanting to do an SQ competition build. Then Dave Edwards bought his Camry with the sole purpose of turning it into an SQ beast. Every single person is going to have there own opinion on what sounds good and what sounds bad. Every single person is not going to get into your car and say that's great you are going to have those people that say it needs to be louder or needs more highs. The simple fact is if you like it than that's all that matters. Me I have a audison amp bridged pushing a set of polk momo 6.5 components it sounds great but I am not done. This spring I am installing a set of ID components and a ID Q 10 inch sub and another audison amp for the sub. ON TOP OF THAT I AM GOING ACTIVE RUNNING A ALPINE 9887.

I thought we were talking about "SQ". What the hell are all these people talking about Kickers and 4000w amps for???

Anywho, I've always strived to get better sound out of my front stage, but after going to a DIYMA meet, two cars stood out to me. One was a late 90s Accord sedan with Hiquphon tweeters (omfggggg!!!), Scanspeak midrange, and Rainbow Kicks in the doors. I believe he was running an IDMax, as a lot of the guys were. Alpine DVA-9861 and 701 combo. He had the mids sealed in the doors, but the midranges were in tiny sealed boxes on the floor and the tweeters were taped (!!) to the kick panels. But my God, that system sounded amazing. the wiring job was just thrown together too (obviously under construction) and he had a carseat in the back with his toddler. It was hilarious...

The second car was a mid 90s Protege sedan. Morel midranges and tweeters, CDT M6 midbass (passive), DLS amps and Pioneer 880PRS. But what really caught my attention were the two 15" SS RL-p's that he had in an IB setup. Wow. When he had them turned down, they blended so well with the front stage I thought he had no subs (having M6 mids helps a little too!!). Then he turned them up and they wangedddd. But they sounded better (to me) than any of the sealed IDMax setups I had heard all day. And I can't wait for the day I get my IB setup done, all because of hearing that car.
