How can I erase the motherboard software? I have not even erased the windows software. I TRIED to but because it claims that it cannot find a hard drive at that point, it disallows me to proceed with the reformating or repair of the hard drive!

It boots up and posts fine, but it stops where it says "Verifying DMI Pool Data....... Update Success" (before the XP logo screen), then it just STOPS there.

Any ideas?

i don't feel like reading all the crap... but did you f6 at the windows setup loading and load the drivers for SATA... windows doesn't have those otherwise, unless it's a custom build.
Yes I did but it asks for a floppy. I have no floppy for any SATA drivers.

my buddy called me 8 in the morning the other day with similar problem.. computer read system disk not found upon POST.. basically no hard drive was being found so it wouldnt booot up.. after hours of trying to figure it out he opened his tower and saw the SATA cable that goes to the hard drive was halfway undone.. basically it was powered up with the power supply plug but the cable that transfers data wasnt in all the way. hopefully you are in the same boat. haha

Ok, so I've got an Abit NF7-s and an Abit AN7. I've got two hard drives, both sata/150- a WD 160GB and a BNIB Maxtor 200GB.

For any combination of motherboards/HDs, it finds the HD (while its booting), but as soon as it gets to the "Update Success" screen RIGHT before the XP Logo/loading screen, it stops. It does this with BOTH setups.

Also,

With EITHER setup, when I am trying to reformat (or repair), it gets to Windows Setup and when I press enter to continue, it says, "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system."

I've tried different cables. As for the SATA drivers, they are CDs. I do not have a floppy drive or even the SATA floppy drivers. The CDs seem to be worthless as long as I cannot boot into windows.

if im not mistaken, the drivers are required to detect the drive, at least they were in ALL the circumstances ive had in the past.
Yes, thats a primary objective among drivers for hardware. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

However, that's not the issue at hand. When I boot the PC up- its displayed in the post. However, it does not boot up all the way. It stops after it says "Update Success" and doesn't continue to boot up.

When I try to reformat or repair, it says that hard-disks cannot be found. At that point, you can only exit the Windows Setup.

first find the manual for your motherboard... It varies from computer to computer...but I had to use a paperclip on mine...you connect two points on the board and it erases the bios(read motherboard software)....windows is not involved...but if you havn't erased the windows software I would try that first by using fdisk or some other partitioning utility....this will erase everything on your comp as well though ...let me know I can give you more specific instructions on using fdisk and reformatting...

It doesn't erase the motherboard software. The mobo software is installed inside windows. What he's talking about is the bios (nothing to do with motherboard software), and it doesn't erase it. It sets it back to factory defualts.
