Is this a common IDE or a SATA150 or a SATAII?

Try a different cable. Try a different IDE header on the mobo. Flip the cable upsidedown. Double check the power cable.

YOu will need to install drivers for XP install to see a SATA controller or IDE RAID controller.

Can you hear the HD spin up? Any other sounds, clicking?

Motherboard or Computer model would help too.

His motherboard is freezing whenever it tries to detect the hard drive. It freezes in bios. It pauses on post until it times out. Windows installer doesn't pick up the hard drive. Soulds like the motherboard is shot.

Check for poped caps on the mobo.

didnt read the whole thread but try erasing and reloading your motherboard software if you didn't do that already.

I'll look for popped capicators. I can't really do anything because its not reading either hard drives.

I've reformatted windows a million times before guys, its just that now I don't have the options to do the same thing since it CANNOT read either hard drives.

By the way. He built the PC himself. Motherboard is an Abit AN7 guru, AMD 3000+ (XP), Geil PC3200 x 2, Maxtor 200GB SATA 150. That might help.

The NF7-s that I stuck in it to test doesn't seem to be working.

It might be that specific motherboard though. It was replaced by a DFI motherboard recently so it could be bad anyways. I just wasn't sure.

Stuck in the ABIT AN7 (the original motherboard that was having problems) and now it's not even booting up. The post code it gives me on the LED doesn't even match up with anything in the abit manual.
