XBL2 is a licensed technology from Adire audio. Chad therefore had to deal with Dan Wiggins ... probably often and pay him royalties.

You know, you really shouldn't speak of that which you haven't a clue... About every post in this thread you've made is complete fabrication and outright wrong.

I NEVER dealt with Chad directly - ever. He used Destijl to build his drivers, paid his royalties to Destijl, never talked with us. First time I even knew he was using XBL² was when AA made their announcement. It was done strictly with Destijl, never with Adire. No paperwork, no checks, nothing.

Really, you should get your facts straight before trying to talk from "on high"...

All I can say is I read the statement from AA at the time and I felt it was rather unprofessional. Like squeak said, unless they were trying to take a jab at Adire (which they were), they could have simply stated they found another design path they wished to pursue instead. There were many tactful ways to explain the situation that emphasized where the company was going, rather than emphasize alleged problems with where they had been. If nothing else, people who own old AA products might now be asking 'why did your company sell me this supposed crap in the first place then?' The business decision was probably sound, but the public relations aspect of it was handled very badly on AA's part..... IMO. I honestly thought to myself 'what were they thinking when they wrote this' after I read their statement.

edit: and no, Im not suggesting AA's product are/were crap.... but that the company's own statement implies an over-priced design (which imo is false)

if people really knew how this stuff worked on the other side of things i would think that the whole situation was blown WAY out of proportion and if really make a judgement about either company other than one had a short fuse about something then i dont know what to say because to a degree people dont need to know details. you go into to bussiness you WONT make everyone happy for simply taking the wrong approach (i say this where wrong is a matter of opinion nothing more nothing less). i wouldnt think any different of dan nor chad sh!t happens

You have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about. You are speaking of assumptions based on what you have read, or heard from others. Do you really know Dan? Have you met him? Because Dan is an incredibly nice guy, and one of the most selfless people I know. And I am sure everyone who knows him well would agree. There is a reason why people are so loyal to him, and that is because he has earned it.

no offense but there isn't any "secrets" to XBL2.... model it up in a FEA program and in Magneto and you'll be able to find out every "nuisance" in a day's time
it's straight forward how it does what it does...

LMT is a good deal more complicated... split coil is cheaper than XBL2 or LMT and less complicated

You seem to think you know everything about speakers, but consistantly prove that you have no idea what you are talking about. The above is just proof of your ignorance on the subject. I will never claim to come close to understanding magnetics and how they interact as it is a hugely complex topic. However I was fortunate to listen to an explanation of the techicalities of XBL^2 and many of the secrets still held from someone holding a doctorate on the subject; Dr. David Hyre. It was well above my head, but I could see from the results that there are a lot of small things that haven't been shared about the technology, and some of those things are benifits XBL^2 has that other designs don't have.

Dan himself said in the Adire forum that XBL^2 is superior to LMT and split coil... and in some ways it is... but in a lot of important ways it's not

Says you. Again you aren't the expert you think you are on the subject. Dan thoroughly explained the benifits and weaknesses of each technology, including his own. So tell me this, if you know more about speaker design than Dan does, which you seem to think is true based on how you constantly say he's wrong, then why did you go to him for consulting for a speaker design?

but again as someone who's dealt with Dan personally for months at a time he can assuredly make you a bit flustrated and even angry.

How do you think he felt when his expertise was constantly questioned by someone who came to him for this very expertise? I'm not surprised that the "know-it-all teenager" he had to deal with felt "a bit frustrated and even angry" when they had to face the fact that they really didn't know as much as they thought they did.

You obviously have no idea how patents work. When the patent for XBL^2 finally goes through, then Dan would have legal action against anything sold using it even while it was still pending. Paying the royalties is not a "favor" to Dan, but a smart move to prevent oweing the royalties later.

Again you post commentary on things you have no idea about. Chad handled the situation in a very unbusiness like manner, while Dan took the high road in how he handled that situation. You won't read how he handled it because his actions weren't made public. But I can assure you they were handled honorably, matching Dan's character.

Wow, another Feandil / Wiggins flamewar. Ha! This time it happened and I had no involvement, I feel better about it now.

I'd made a longer post, then edited it. All I have to say is that once again, we have a bunch of 8 year old kids running these companies.

Take Feandil's post. He made the assumption that AA dealt with Dan directly. That could be considered childish, but all in all, big friggin' deal. He personally did, and he's a smaller company than they are, anyone could think the same. Remember Dan's reply? Real mature. "Because you made one obvious mistake in one post I'm going to call BS on everything else you've said without a shread of reason or evidence or purpose."

If he said something that's blatantly wrong, point it out. Say "They pay royalties now so that they don't build up until the patent is given." or "Yes Feandil didn't know quite what he thought he did but I didn't tell him to just pick a absolute design so I could build the **** thing and not push prototype dates back over and over again" or "Yes Chad at AA was immature but you couldn't say I was not rocking the boat at the same time.".

Not "You're a blatant liar but I'm not going to say why or what you've said is untrue."

See opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got 'em. Dan is a smart guy, really smart guy. I just don't buy into stuff as easily as other people, and I won't be owning another Adire product anytime soon. This is not because of people on the internet either, not what I've "heard" or "read"...this is my personal decision...and I'm entitled to it.
