MY head unit (DEH-1600) wont power up!!!...I was putting together the harness, left all my connections open ( didnt cover spliced wires with black tape, i know...stupid)just in case I messed up the wiring. I plugged in the harness and turned on the car. everything was working fine. played a couple of test cds...perfect. But as i was finalizing the installation by putting the head unit into the dash, it just died. i looked everything over, but it seems to be right. but as i was trying to figure out wat was wrong i realized as i was installing i had the key ignition still turned to on,i thought i had a blown fuse...nope didnt. maybe the black and red wires touched? maybe something else? I DONT HAVE A CLUE..can someone help please.....!!

i didnt solder ne wires just twisted them together.. didnt wanna finalize ne thing yet just in case i messed up the connections..i re-wired all the wires but still no power up, and i also checked all the fuses...on the car.. and on the HU but nothing blew.

also my clock... it went extremely dim to the point where i couldnt even read it but after a while i got less dimmer... and restarted itself.

can a HU die.. if the black and or ried wires touch the outside shell of it?..b.c that why i think happened as i was placing it into the dash.. it maybe touched each other.. or the outside shell..

i was attempting to bring it in to the shop.. but they charge $45 just to diagnois so i said Screw it..ill keep trying myself.. I first tried to disconnect the batteries to reset everything..still nothing. My clock keeps resetting itself..everytime i turn on and off the car. HELP..I HAVE NO HU in my car...argg!!!

i also realized that everytime i turn my car on and off.. the clock automatically resets to 1:00...

It sounds like your vehicle's constant fuse, which supplies both the head unit constant power and your vehicle clock, is blown. Check EVERY fuse in the vehicle, including any fuse box under the hood. Don't just check the fuses labelled "radio".

its the fuse trust me. its not the radio fuse like mentioned above.. look for the ones that relate to accessories and checc all of them. youll find one of them is blown. its happened to me before.
