kenwood vs Alpine HUs?

i have an alpine cd player, and i lik the sound it puts out, but its kinda plain. i got a 9843. i got it on ebay for 130$. Ive been reading some forums on HUs and kenwood seems to be the cd player of choice. their models are pretty much the same price as the lower end alpines, kenwood just seems to have some more features in their lower end HUs than alpine. how does kenwood match up SQ wise to an alpine?

my buddy has one that crapped out on him.. all of a sudden it wont spit out his CD and everytime it powers on it motorizes to open and the screen goes blank. ive heard a lot of ppl had the same problem.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Excelon decks. My cousin has an 889 and it is extremely nice sounding and seems to comparable to my 860 in controllability.

OK LETS RUMBLE!

Yesterday I removed my highly regaurded Alpine 9833,nice HU expensive when it was in production,4v preouts and all the goodies.

I swapped in a Excelon 889 i grabbed used on another message board,it was practicly like new,I already had a 789 and liked it alot(that replaced a 760MP)

anyways the 889 absolutly smoked the 9833,SQ was better a higher volumes it was clearer,my speakers which were always overly bright now sounded smoother and more detailed

The subs seemed to be tighter and I must say at almost half the price of the 9833 Alpine should be ashamed

I will never even consider an Alpine again..........esp since they only have one model worth using and it has glidetouch,a horrid little invention

I like the 789 better , the 889 has too much stuff I cant use

id like to know if i would notice a difference going from an alpin 7995 to a kenwood 889.. both with the DEFEAT SETTING on and processing done from my audiocontrol EQX.??
