Aren't all HU 50 Watts x 4 Max. (20W x 4 RMS)?

I used to have a HU where the power amp section was detachable

from the unit so the HU could be used with no amplification. I think

it was a kenwood. I remember liking it.

which model is that?
I don't remember.

A lot of new models that are coming out allow you to run it as a "dead head", meaning you can turn off the internal amp. I turned it off with my 880.

Crappy head units may only be 10w x 4. Decent units are over 20w.

there are realistic ratings and then advertised ratings.

Differences in design and components used will yield different ratings.
