Hey everyone, got a question for the powers at be... are these capacitors any good? i see them for sale on e-bay all the time but never heard any reviews of them.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Power-Acoustik-PC20HC-20-Farad-Digital-Capacitor-NEW_W0QQitemZ5844872083QQcategoryZ75388QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

They're supposedly good for 20 farads. for my needs I only need 5 farads... but I figure overkill in this area isn't bad, and i have 0 gauge running to the back already.

Would it be wise to save up and instead go for a MA audio HK10Q or HK5Q ?

I did the big three upgraded everything to 0 gauge... i've got a 270 Amp alternator waiting to be put in, unfortunately I have to hand-machine a bracket so it will fit, then buy a pulley for it and size up the serpintine belt so it will accomodate the new alternator.

I won't have the time to put in the new alt. until almost summer, and the lights still dim a bit in the meantime. As a matter of fact I blew one of my silverstarr's on the lowbeams. i believe, because it was practically turning on and off /w every pump of the bass. I took every care possible installing them, i even wore latex gloves so I woulnd't touch the bulb /w my bare hands. I Figure a Cap will temp. solve the problem. I have a 136 amp alt. stock until i get to installing the HO model.

A cap will only make the problem worse. It'll be an additional drain and just 1 more thing for your alternator to worry about.

you could probably salvage that thing for aluminum, or put it in a potato sack and beat the shit out of someone with it.

i bet you could use it as a tire block so your car doesn't roll away while it's jacked up.

you could probably melt it down and make 200 soda cans.

Not everyone will agree with this. They do what they are supposed to do, which isn't stopping lights from dimming.
they smooth out voltage and act as a filter for AC. Here is a way to decide if you need a cap. Get a multimeter, set it to AC voltage and test your battery and let me know if you have any AC to warrant a capactor.
