I do know a few things he's told us. He's got a broken car he can't afford to fix. He's looking for a loan, but has no job to repay said loan, and excuses why he can't get a job.

I don't care if he lives in BFE. There's work to be done within walking distance of where he lives. Lawncare, cleaning homes, babysitting, handyman work, farmwork and helping the elderly are not glamorous but they can be had in every rural corner of the USA and they pay in US Dollars.

Somewhere near him is someone with money saying they can't find anyone to do the job. The broken car in the driveway should have a sign on it that says "Excuses".

What good is a loan if you have no way to repay it?

Yea, I also know many people who get student loans under the age of 18. I am on spring break right now but I could ask my business law professor after break.

It's a common law issue of who is or is not an adult. Current accepted standard is you must be 18 to be an adult. Civil law.

Anyone who got a student loan under 18 had an adult sign, not as a cosigner, but the primary. Without the adults signature it isn't worth the paper it's written on. Totally unenforcable. There is no real point to have the minor sign at all. Might as well be your puppies paw prints for the all the legal weight it carries.
