Are Kickers Overated?

i love the cvxs. why aren't they adequate? or are you just looking for less output oriented and more like the solos of old? i miss those things.

as to the records, (i'm lazy as well) i'm sure kicker as their share, at least in the US, lol. maybe one of these youthful, internet savvy people will do the research for us?

and the respect is mutual. not too often, especially here, one can have this kind of disagreement without a flamefest. aw well, unto the next one, eh? lol.

Yes Id like to see something more along the lines of their old round solo's. Id like to see a qualiy SQ driver, and a strong 'supersub' SQL driver from them... round of course. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Tracey has assured me they, or at least one of them is coming, but I have no idea when. Ive just never been into the square fad.

a super lsq sub? hmmmmmm, round of course. it would be interesting to see kicker do something like that. i'd take the solo x motor/coil, change the suspension up a bit, add a round cone (paper probably) and tada'..kicker super sub..lol..

but for real, that's the basis i would use.

Kicker in the bomb especially in a spl setup imo. Mainstream or not, they have an excellent sub line.

Im not sure the solo motor would be a good choice. Heavy coil, not made for tons of linear throw... Id like to see a long excursion low distortion unit myself. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Custom Kicker basket.. that would be yummy.

i love kicker

i'm just got back into car audio after being out for about 7 years.

and i jumped onto kicker, because of thier rep. quality and loud.

and i do belive that still water designs was one of the first companies to produce car audio sub woffers.

so they are the long run.

BUT since i'm going for all SPL i'm going with the max SPL company DD

just trying to figure out whice serise for my set up.

The point is man no one woofer will dominate. Its install to install. And saying that you would take the Kickers NO MATTER WHAT. Is ignorant in my eyes. You have to use what will work with you. And saying that the Kickers would win the majority is also a very ignorant statement. As you can see...only 1 SoloX placed first at finals, and I wouldn't of made this post had you not tried to state that Kickers Dominate...sure they have there place as does DD, RE, Fi, T3, Memphis, Cactus Sounds...etc.

Its all about what works here and now. Having loyalty is a big deal in this industry but sometimes you have to live in the real world man.

i've been to alot of comps this year and what i see winning most in the lanes are

DD, kicker, RE, & memphis mojo's

those win the majority of shows in my aera, and within a couple hundred miles.

there's always normal brands there JL, rockford, ECT, but they don't do much

compared to those mentioned.

there are some good brands out there, i won't say kicker is best but if i had to pick a favorite brand it would be kicker.

but as i stated i want more SPL and i'm not spending a grand per 10 for the solo X

so it came down to RE and DD

no brainer DD for me

i understand what your saying, i really do. but i'll stick with kickers. your correct, it's all in the install. i'm glad you made the post, but it only tells part of the story. without going through every place, one can't really say what dominated. the podium is what counts, so one would have to hit the first three spots in every class. and no, kicker might not have dominated even that, but i'll staywith my words.

in any given install, the solo xs will have an advantage. will they always win? nope. but they will give one a slight edge at the jump. the install, as you mentioned, will determine the outright winner, all else being equal.

What advantage specifically?The solo-x 18 is the only sub I see with any real advantage over the competition (cone area).
