Are JL subs really fragile or what?

i had a 10 inch w6v2 in the past.......surrounds started cracking....must've been cuz i was running 900w rms to it.........but all in all...great woofer.............................................now only if they would put better surrounds......

I wonder how that wouldn't cause it to crack a bit. Abut 500 watts more than what is recommended, wouldn't surpise me if some extreme excursion may push the surround sound (and other things) beyond the limt.

I've owned three pairs of JL subs. Gave them their recommended juice and they pounded flawlessly, no damage whatsoever...except to my ears maybe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

Perhaps the ones you've seen have ben mistreated or whatnot.

w7 is an anomally and costs like 500 per. And I have seen fore than 1 fail at less than max wattage. there is much better out there for the money

probably because max wattage is a BS number...run them near their RMS and you are fine. As far not being able to handle more tham 1k.....well no shit, most of them are rated at 500 or less dumbass

I thought JLs subs (at least the w6,w7) were rated pretty conservatively with RMS power? I fed my 8 w7 600wrms for over a year and no problems. i think its rated for 250-300
