are dual voice coil subs better than single?

I am getting a rockford fosgate 10 inch r2d2 it is dual voice coil 2 ohms. when i ordered online i didn't pay attention to that. it is replacing a 4 ohm single voice coil pioneer TS-W253R. is the rockford an upgrade? it will be powered by a phoenix gold qx500.1d. should i show the amp 1 ohm or 4 ohm at the terminal?

I'd recommend a single 400w rms dual 4ohm sub. That amp should be able to power that well, there are a lot of decent ones out there MTX,Pioneer,Rockford,Kicker,Polk,Audiobahn,JBL,Kenwood,MBQuart I think all make a 12 inch dvc 4ohm 400rms sub.
