Are 90% Of Today's Car Amps The Same

And they do that to MAKE MONEY! If they are making a ton of money on an exsisting product, then why the hell should they change it?
So much for technological advances in just about everything else under the sun except car audio:(

I do have a question for you though. What would you do, as a Sundown dealer, if a big chain such as Wal*Mart started selling generic Zenons for significantly less than what you sell your Sundown amplifiers for? Technically, they could do that to "make money" too:greedy:

Regardless, I can't wait for my cousin to do his Air Force tour in Korea because he said he is going to purchase all the Zenon generics he can get his hands on as well as a some Abyss amplifiers. Guess who gets to hang on to them until he makes it back state side:D

Because eventually if the products do not last people will not buy them after a while.
If that was true, there would not have been a mad dash to buy/produce cheap amps.

And just for the sake of argument, here are 10 amps that are very different as well as engineered in house. I will leave it to you guys to name the 90 that are the same.

JL

JBL

Rockford

Genesis

Helix

Tru

Arc

Zapco

Sinfoni

Steg

There is still plenty of quality out there. You just have to pay to play and your average person is not willing to do that.

Lunar Amplifiers would be another one to add to that list above;) I heard a rumor that Kenny used to be a design engineer for Rockford Fosgate. I don't know if that is true or not, but it would explain a lot if it was true:cool:

I am sure there are many more. Those were just a quick 10 to prove the point that the OP just does not quite seem to grasp.

All amps dont sound the same, nor all amps are the same.

But since he like to quote RC's challenge: Only amps that MEASURE the same will SOUND the same.

as well, it has been discussed in another thread, 1 of the original hifonics designers is back doing work at Maxxsonics. in the last 3 yrs Hifonics amps have made a huge jump in power output and efficiency both. ever since they got him back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That explains a lot too. One of my friends, a MECP certified installer, stated that Hifonics started getting better and more reliable with their 2006 series. He said prior to that, it was a crap shoot with regards to how long an amp would last. In fact, he has been running a BXi 1606 for several years now and it is still going strong. He also said the 2010 Maxxsonics amplifiers are even better with regards to the build quality and components used across their whole product line.

But getting back to the topic at hand. As long as one is dealing with a quality, reliable, product that has good customer service, should the need ever arise, that is really all one needs with regards to a 12 volt amplifier.

Finally, I hope DEI dies a horrible death with their Orion line due to their horrible customer service. Every time I had to deal with them in the past I always got the feeling that they were indirectly saying "We have your money now piss off!":verymad: Their horrific customer service along with spotty reliability drove me elsewhere!

Who else got the email from Zed?

Two new amps on the way - currently in prototype testing -- production to begin in appx 70 days. A 2 ch at 2x250/2x500, and a 6 ch at 6x150/6x300.

Says they will be small and efficient. Must be full range class D. The 1800w is 16x10x2.

I can't wait to see them myself:toast:

It's only 90% the same if you're talking about what people are running on CA.com.... In the real consumer market (aka brick and mortar stores), there are a lot of differences.

Very true. Not a lot of people I know run with Atomic, Sundown, American Bass, Cactus, etc. A lot of those amps are well respected but can be perceived as trendy.

Oddly, my local Memphis dealer told me about Lunar Amplifiers after I told him that I wouldn't run another piece of shit Memphis Car Audio amp. Just to recap what I have said before, I went through two Memphis amps purchased authorized in a 6 month period under warranty and had two transshipped Memphis amps that were DOA out of the box.

That was a terrible statement. Piss poor installation and use kills most amps, not build quality. Build quality is important and there are a handful of high end manufacturers that **** at it but the DD, Hifonics, Sundown boards are built nicely and are solid amps.
