are 2 Orion 1200d amps better than 1 Orion 2500d amp?

what would be better, two 1200d Orion amps or a 2500d Orion amp? Also, how would i hook the 2 1200d amps up together so i can run 3 subs or is that even possible? The local speaker shop said that if i were to get 2 amps, i could "stack" them. Dont know what that means but if anyone could help, please do. thanks.

oh, i'm running the subs at a 1 ohm load, thanks.

i've strapped two 1200d's at 1 ohm (1/2 ohm each)and never had a problem... and yes Orion's amps seem to light up getting below 1 ohm. For example I had 2 2500d's in my car on two quad 1 ohm 15's and at 1 ohm they did a 149.7 or something and I got curious and dropped them to .25 and burped a few volume clicks LOWER and I was in the 152.2 range iirc.

so two 1200d's strapped each @ .5 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> one 2500d @ 1 ohm

just make sure you have enough juice to feed the amps. those two will pull more than one bigger one.

it would make since that 1 power supply would be seemingly more efficent. just as crxbmpn said make sure you have the juice, if you do then it doesnt matter and teh 2 1200ds take the win....as well as head to head challenges...

if you strap up a pair of 1200d's at the same impedence as a 2500d the 1200d's will see 1/2 the ohm load each that the 2500d does. And I really dont think the 2500d is that special @ 1 ohm, but start going down into the .5 or .33 or .25 range and she cranks out some juice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif so consider two 1200d's @ .5 each (strapped to a 1 ohm load) much stronger than the 2500d @ 1 ohm.

so what you are saying is you are pulling that out of your a$$
not quite sir //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
think about it for a second... smaller power supply = less current draw. a 2400d is 2 1200's internally strapped and sharing a single smaller power supply. 2 1200d's together have more capacitance than a single 2400d. this means the 2400 has less current draw for the close to, or same power (depending on the amp).

while i DID assume that these amps are constructed in a typical manner, that isn't a wild guess.

you can read a post by a DB Drag World Finalist i tracked down on ROE for any clarification you might need... http://forum.realmofexcursion.com/showpost.php?p=29805&postcount=2

I will, however, admit that you guys ARE right in saying that the entire game changes when you've got more than enough juice to run the amps. if you've got the power supply for it the 1200d's do put out more power (for the exact same reason that makes them less efficient compared with the 2400 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif )

i have done the head to head.
the 2 1200d's are louder than the 1 2500d by .7th in my apps.
funny... the dude in my link noticed a similar difference between two entirely different amps...

the guy in your link ....

yes i know him, he lives 10 mins from me.

i am also a world finlist and i have done all the testing i need to ,i know that the 2 1200d's (or 2400d's) are louder than the single amp.

now here is why i think so.

you need to take the 2500d down to .5 or lower to see it come alive, not so hard when strapping as said above it see half.

i have used orion for 3 years .... this is one topic i know about!!

exactly!!! the 2500d is a monster below .5, and if you have two 1200d's and strap them up to a total 1 ohm load then the two 1200d's @ .5 are def stronger than one 2500d @ 1
