AQ 2200D tested!

OK, so I didn't really post much about the amp other than power, so I'll take a min and post some general thoughts on the amp for the other factors.

Good:

I love the fact that this amp has a clipping indicator built into the remote gain control. Just mount the knob somewhere that you can reach/see it, and you can tell if you are clipping the amp at a glance.

The amp is very dynamic for a class D amp. Even at low volume levels it has a lot of punch, and picks up all the quick, tight transients. This has been my biggest gripe about the AQ1200 and the DD M1a, as they don't do this particuarly well. This amp is much better.

Beat the crap out of it, and it's still cool to touch.

Turns on/off almost silently.

Small footprint/good power

Looks. Can't go wrong with plain black and a simple logo.

1/0 input terminals. I think every amp over 500 watts should have them.

Price (obviously)

Bad:

No bass boost, phase control, blah blah etc.... knobs. I personally don't give a crap if they are on there or not, but some people may. DJ left them off for some noob protection, and I can definately see his reason.

Can't shut the subsonic or LPF off. I know it's a sub amp, but I like to shut these off and use my active crossover to control everything. Not a huge deal, but something I prefer.

Can't really think of anything else I didn't like

I like this amp so much, I'm trying like h e l l to talk DJ into a 3000+ watt amp. He's fighting the urge, but I think we can break him down. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Thanks for doing the testing man, debating on whether getting a 1200D or getting the 2200D. Not really a money problem, just didn't want to spend that much.

Preaching to the quire! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Lol.

But yes I also appreciate this thread, the testing, and the information on real power versus apparent power. That stuff was a good read the other day.

J25: hey i was just looking over this thread again and i thought back to your HDC thread about the testing you did. didnt you do a 143+ with 1 hdc and 1 DD m1a? and in this thread you're pulling a 143+ with the Aq 2200d.

isnt the m1a a 1200w amp?

maybe different boxes??

i think its the same box (he says its the same box from the 1200d tests, but i dont know if thats the same box he did for the "hdc" tests), however i just noticed he is using an HD and not the HDC this time around. i remember his HDC pretty much killed his old HD so that could be why.

Yeah, it did almost a 146 with the HD3c. Look at part 2 of the test. Another thing to consider is my windshield is pretty severly busted now, and wasn't before. I busted it breaking ice off of it this winter. I haven't referenced the car with the busted windshield against what it used to do before it was busted. It may have lost a little.

Wanted to add my finding from today.

I tested the pair strapped to my DD 9515's in 10.5 cubes @ 40hz.

Test Frequency 43 hz

Resting load 0.6 ohms

Resting voltage 14.38 volts

Voltage dropped to 13.2 volts at burp

72.4 volts

47.2 amps

3417 watts @1.53 ohms.

This is just an example of the aparent power a pair of these are producing in my application. These numbers will change dependent are your subs, box and feed voltage. Also the pair strapped is rated to be stable at 2ohms.
