Apple iPod Touch Released

edit: and btw, its got wifi, so im guessing down the road it could theoretically be used as a phone... now, why an ipod needs wifi i have no clue except for that it could be kinda nifty to catch onto a wireless hub in an airport or something and surf.
iTunes on iPod via Wifi is in the not-too-distant future.

that sprint phone does look pretty bad ***. That's the bad thing with alltel, they never have any cool looking phones. I've never had a problem service wise but the phones are just real shitty compared to other companies(looks wise).

Yes, not as much development for CDMA phones as there is for UMTS (or even straight 2.5G GSM), but it could be worse: you could have Nextel. Alltel is also a smaller company, so they have a hard time getting a hold of exclusive production contracts for models like Sprint and Verizon (other CDMA competitors) have acquired.

I have no idea what that means.....lol sorry I'm not real big into phones Neil //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Basically it means that the form of technology used by Alltel (called CDMA) does not get as much phone development as other forms of technology (such as UMTS) do, as it is considered less flexible and less "cutting edge" in the engineering world.

oh so it's just a technology....ok that's easier to grasp. I'll look it up after class so you don't have to explain it all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

My phone sucks. It decided to quit making outgoing calls, so I threw it against a wall, and it shattered into several pieces in my friend's apartment. I did manage to find them, though, and I put it back together, and it works now.

That's how to fix electronics.

lol there's no need for name calling good sir. It was just an opinion.
I use the term taint fondlers with utmost respect and as a compliment. C'mon, I never complained of your skill //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Tongue in cheek good friend. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Please describe the methods through which you transmit voice and data simultaneously on a CDMA2000 with EV-DO network. Even Revolution B cannot support this. HSDPA (not HSPDA) is a data overlay on the UMTS network which is easily upgradable to a downlink of over 40Mbit. UMTS (a form of GSM) will be the international standard, so again you'll have those CDMA devices that are unusable in most countries outside North America.
I like the precision that CDMA offers in terms of it's access protocol, but as far as which is more sensible in the future, there is no doubt (in my opinion) that HSDPA is where the 3rd generation future is. And I have worked on both sides, formerly with a company that evolved from TDMA, to GSM, now to UMTS w/ HSDPA, and I am currently employed with a CDMA2000 company.

I seriously doubt that HSDPA is going to have that high of data rates. HSDPA will use a shared data channel which means there is going to be lots of digital duplexing. Carriers now don't have enough bandwidth for their current data networks so having a high speed shared pipe isn't going to change a thing. Plus, the upload will still use the old 3G Data Network. HSDPA is not going to change much, especially world wide. A lot of places haven't even started using 3G so how can they start using 3.5G?

Also, to get close to 'maximum' theoretical speed you are going to have to have a almost perfect RF connection. "More Bars in More Places" RIGHT, they have some serious infrastructure work to do if they want to keep that shit up. I live in Cincinnati and AT&T blows here. Same back home, the only places they seem to cover is super odd areas. Also, the higher the data rates the better the connection has to be even for a voice call. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

AT&T doesn't have the network capacity for all the data, some problem Verizon has with 1x EV-DO. The system bottle necks and the RF is pulled back. The only way to avoid this is to build a brand new infrastructure from the bottom up. Which isn't going to happen.

Japan is light years ahead of US //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
Lets think about why...

Data there is much more important than data here... How many people with smart phones here? How many people with smart phones there?

They have a MUCH smaller country. Which means there are a lot less Cell Sites to upgrade. Plus, the data network doesn't have to handle so many jumps.
