Lets think about why...
Data there is much more important than data here... How many people with smart phones here? How many people with smart phones there?

They have a MUCH smaller country. Which means there are a lot less Cell Sites to upgrade. Plus, the data network doesn't have to handle so many jumps.

As far as what existing companies can and can't support, I agree with you on some points. AT&T's desires are commendable, but they're trying to be another Japan: they can't in the market they're in (again, just my opinion). Useful implementation of HSDPA is still a long ways away, but I believe it's closer than the number of revolutions required to make EV-DO comparable.

Cingular/AT&T is unbelievably good in some markets, the same way that Verizon is ridiculously good in others. I truly believe it is impossible to prove which is better because there are a lot of metrics to look at and it ultimately comes down to the validity, reliability, and interpretation of the testing data taken in.

Also, "More bars in more places" shouldn't be used against AT&T, the same way I would use "Most reliable" against Verizon or "Most powerful" against Sprint. That's pure marketing and nothing objective we could pinpoint, and they all know it. What's really funny is when they take each other to court over their marketing slogans!

Agreed 100%. However, I will meet you halfway and say that for the most part, Verizon is probably the best provider for the majority of the cellular customer base.

that sprint phone does look pretty bad ***. That's the bad thing with alltel, they never have any cool looking phones. I've never had a problem service wise but the phones are just real shitty compared to other companies(looks wise).

alltel has the mogul... only with another name, the HTC.
