Alright guy's need some help i bought a volt meter guage today from pep boy's and i just need to figure a place that would have the schematic for the wiring for my dash/steering column wiring schematic if anyone know's a site please let me know it's for a 1989 lincoln Mark VII

You can hook the voltmeter up to any switched source of 12V, i.e. your head unit.

oh alright thanks man i was thinkn run it from the light wire because that way i flip on the switch for light's the light for the voltmeter would come on . what you guy's think? and for mounting it im going to do something real unique something i haven't seen done before im going to take out my actual ashtray and make a template underneath and mount the voltmeter where the ashtray used to be fit's perfect to i will take pic's once finished. but what you guy's think of running the wire off the light switch?

Can't do it off the headunit already running my interior neon's off that accesory wire off the Hu so don't want to give it 2 much power, blow a fuse or something ya know.

see that wouldn't be a bad idea from the fuse box but i already have my l.e.d. strip wired into my fuse box for when my alarm arm's. how would i run it from the battery ya mean the car this is being put in is a 1989 lincoln mark vii if that helps any.

The meter should have two terminals, one for the meter itself, and an illumination wire. Wire the illumination wire to the light circuit you mentioned. Then find any source of switched 12V for the meter wire. It's going to draw milliamps if anything at all measurable so hooking it up to your HU is only going to blow a fuse if you screw up the wiring job.
