That make it so the install shops feel like they need to charge 150 bucks to remove it? So they can install my new deck?

Some OEM HUs are built in a way that if u remove it, it will disable the car.... could b that.

I have been working at Dodge dealerships for 8 years now and I am not sure what you are talking about. I know the stock radio needs a 5v CAN BUS signal to turn on, but not sure what you mean here.

Well I just hate installing HU into anything so tedious plus they seem to blow up all the gd time so I just a install shop to do it for me. He's told me btw Dodge have a feature that we have to remove and it costs 150..... I was like wtf feature.

No real answer from him. So I was wondering wtf is he talking about?

Wondering since the last HU I installed was in my 98 Cavalier lol in 97 so its been a moon or two. I did score 10/10 on iasca on it though lol.

The deck is a Kenwood eXcelcon KDC-X891 too.... Not the top end model but has 3 preouts at 5v each will drill for now.

sounds like he may have charged you $150 for a $40 harness, and judging by "I install headunits and they blow up" you were dumb enough to fall for it

Haven't fallen for a thing yet. Never paid/got it installed yet. Not such a noob as to just take his word for law. I always shop 3-4 shops before deciding after reviewing all available information as I hate to get ripped off. Makes me angry.

And makes sales men run into their store and lock the doors on me so I can't follow them.

PS never ever buy tires from fountain tire.

Some newer model automobiles need certain harnesses that enable the use of factory settings like on GM trucks so that when the headunit doesn't go off until you open the door, door chimes, etc.

I believe that they are talking about a canbus interface, and if thats the case, the harness/adapter box does usually run about 150 bucks

i have a 1993 buick park avenue and it has that nice feature but i didnt need a special harness, that would **** if the newer models needed one though just a waste of money. Figures that Dodge/Mercedes aka DaimlerChrysler would make you have to do something like that.

Tring to get an answer on the Dodge forum now. Well 150 bucks for a **** harness seems a tad ridiculous to me.
