Hey guys i was wondering if anyone had any of the RE subs in a small sealed or medium box. Every thread that i have read about RE subs are in a 3 or 4 cuic ft ported box. Since so many people on this board have so mostly good things to say about these subs, I've decided that i want to try it. The only thing about it is that i dont want to use up 3 or 4 cubic ft of space in my car. I wanna try it in a 1 or 2 cubic ft box (ported or sealed) would this still sound good? I want very good sq. thanks

Yes, they will sound good sealed. Had mine sealed before I made my ported box, and they sounded very good. I didn't have the room, so they are in a lot smaller box than what is rec. for ported with amazing results. After porting them, I gained alot more out put and IMO they sound great to. Which line are you thinking about getting with?

I'm thinkin about the SE's. If can get another amp with more power then ill consider the SX. Do you guys know the size of the sealed box that you guys heard them in? Thanks for the input guys!

Mine were in .50 sealed.

my friend has a xxx 15 sealed in about 1-2 cuft. i have never heard any top of the line subs before, and it pounds. it is insanely loud.
so this is in a sealed box? Was the bass tight and accurate? thanks again guys

I had my 15HC in sealed box and then put it in a ported box.

The sealed box was about 2cuft while the ported one was about 4cuft tuned 30hz. In the sealed box w, it wasn't too loud but was incredibly accurate. It wasn't boomy at all and it would be perfect addition to a SQ setup.

However, The HC is downright awesome in a ported box and gets really loud and super low. There really isn't much of a need for more then one of them when you have it in ported box. The SQ is still pretty much the same in the sealed box except for the extra boom.

Well, if you break it down in theoritical approximations. You gain 3dB for porting and 3dB and double the cone area.

Going from a sealed 12 to sealed 15 doesn't double the cone area so you don't gain a 3dB. However, going from sealed 12 to a ported 12 would gain you 3dB.

It is said that by going ported, you do lose some SQ. It is also said that sound quality doesn't really change from going to a 12 to a 15.

In conclusion, the 12XXX ported should get louder but wouldn't sound as good as 15XXX sealed. However, it is totally install dependent so results could vary. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif
