difference between a superjet square nose 650 and a kawi 650sx?

i can't find a specs or difference list.

I don't plan on doing any flatwater riding, I live 20 minutes from Monster Hole (sabastian inlet for those who on't know)... So i plan to take advtange of that im going riding in the surf.

suggestions are greatly appreciated

There's a world of difference.

The SJ has much more bottom end power even in stock form than the Kawi. You need the bottom end to pop you out of the water and up the face of the wave.

The SJ 650 can be modded for very little money as parts are all over the place.

The SJ has a much better hull for freestyle and likes to slide around unlike the SX.

With the SJ you have a great starting point for future mods where with the SX you are just about at the end of the road.

Just about all who start out on the SX ditch them for something else (SJ) within a few months and those who don't wish they could.

Save your self a lot of money by starting off with the best possible platform. Ride the snot out of it, mod it but keep your eyes open for parts to build a 701.

The 650 crank along with all electrics are the same as the 701's so all you will need is a set of cases (give or take $100), a cylinder ($100- 150), a head (stock heads you can get free) and a set of pistons. For under $500 you can have a nice 701 that will run for ever.

If and when you get the 650 there are a few things that you can do right of the bat for little $$ that will make a world of difference.

Put it this way,

a few years ago I had a 650 square with a pipe and a few other mods that could keep up with piped 701's. In places like The Monster Hole I had just as much fun as the rest of the crew (surf's a great equalizer) but where they would use 2 tanks of fuel I would barely burn through one.

Now my current motor is a totally different animal but I love it.

Get a square and the Surf ****s will hook you up with all necessary gear to make it the best ski for your budget.

alright... i think that pretty much answers the question lol, also was unaware that the 701 was basically a bored out 650 (same crank) i thought i had to do an entire motor swap. but i figure with a 650 sn with pipe, milled head, carb, prop, nozzle, intake grate, ride plate should have more than enough to get me thru the surf, any other suggestions are welcomed

701 is not just a bored out 650. The cases are much different in terms of volume and the cylinder has totally different ports .

They do use many other common parts (crank, flywheel, stator, coupler, bed plates, starters, carb (single carb 61X case 701).

Changing over from 650 to 701 is an easy affair once you have all the parts together.

Many couches of that vintage had 701's in them and sometimes you can pick one up for free out of a dead couch. Not only do you get a free motor but you also rid the world of another couch.

What you listed there with the SN is about what I had done to mine.

I did bump the timing and milled my intake manifold ever so slightly and messed around with the water routing. All easy and inexpensive mods.

I prefer the stock ride plate with a D-cut over aftermarket plates but the rest is all good.

You might look into a handle pole down the line. The SN poles do snap quite easily but a stock RN pole will bolt up, allow you to shorten it quite easily and is strong. Don't waste your money on aluminum poles.

In time you will want footholds but before you decide on a set try out other peoples skis first. I have WaterDawgs that you are more than welcome to try next time I'm up in Sebastian, we all run different setups so you should be able to get a good idea.

Just get a square and in no time you will have a good surf boat.

Many of us have unused parts that we can always help a local out with.

You're right, that is GHEY.Now run along and do a hair trick on someone else's girlfriend.
haha very true, i'd rather have a "nice" sound system with a real hobby, than spend all my money on being the loudest car in town and having car audio be my ONLY hobby

I'd be worried about a backyard hack who experimented with 110 octane.
Keep searching.
true.... but a compression test could/should tell me what going on inside right?

i just figured for a first ski on extremely limited funds (one reason i wasn't looking for a 701 at all) it would work

i've never ridden stand up, i've ridden couches till im blue in the face everything from an old kawi 1100 to the rxp-x, but never a stand up

If it will get you out on the water in your budget range and checks out than why not.

However, that $400 could go towards something more reliable.
