Anyone want a challenge?

Ive been taking measurments for a box that will wind up ported threw my rear deck. However im not good at calculating weird boxes, Nor port lengths at all.

Im needing someone to help me with a design for 2 15" RE SE's, ill leave tuning ect up to you. The box will take up the majority of the trunk of an 83 Grand prix, And the subs will be seeing roughly 1200+WRMS.

Here's what i had in mind:

Subs would be mounted on the 45 degree angle. If you need any more measurments, Id be glad to get them for you. If you want money for ur time / design, Shoot me an offer.

Btw: i already see a missing measument. port can be no wider then 6" at the top, That measurment can change, but it must stay at 14 7/8" tall to fit the rear deck. And the lower the overall box (Between the ports) is, the more room the subs will have to move air threw the trunk [Via the rear seat]

um what are your goals? do you want it to just look good or do you want some really good output? or do you want to keep your trunk is that why your doing it like this? why would you want it like this?

answer these questions. plus im going to say go with 6" aero ports to go through the rear deck. it would be much easier. also do dual chambers. once i get a little bit of information as to why you want to do your box this way ill start on the design and so on.

I build theses type boxes all the time

15” subs do not work well in trunks, if you want TONS of bass do smaller woffers RIGHT

Most 15” subs will not mount on a 45 angle

Just trying to help NOT bash your plans

will that box even fit through the trunk opening?

subs/port on the same baffle, firing forward and sealed off can work. No way to make that work? I ran 2 15's like that in my Altima for a few years...

Nope, Seats dont fold down, And id have to do some cutting to some braces which would be more trouble then its worth.

My goal is to see what my subs sound like in a ported set-up, And i would like to use up some space the rear "Shelf" that g-body's have, Figured id port threw rear deck since it wouldnt be much difference as far as building the box goes, more in the design. I really dont care about "looks" at the moment, Just wanna give the subs the kinda room they deserve and i cant do it with a normal box.

As for it fitting threw the trunk opening, I was gonna put it in in two peices, And finish the box in the trunk. I could care less about the trunk space, I just know i can get more out of it then the 4 cubes sealed.

And why will a 15" sub not mount at a 45* angle?

Ive also thought about the aero's however ive already got the rear deck wrapped in suede and i really dont wanna modify it. If i could go with a design something like this, Each port would sit right below the 4x10 opening, and id just have to trim it a bit.

Acoustically, that design is garbage. You're going to get more turbulence than a Cessna in a hurricane. Do a single 12 or a pair of 10s. If you do single subwoofers properly, they are almost definitely going to be louder than multiples done improperly. The rule of "3" is this: doubling cone, power or adding a port nets you 3db in output. That is assuming that all factors are the same, and it takes far more airspace for a 15" to reap the benefits of its larger cone area, and if not, the speaker won't perform. Do it right with less and you'll end up with more. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Then id have to build the sub box to the top of the rear deck, And it would block most of the sound going to the cab of the car.

I guess i could go with my 1 15" sealed for now, but i WANT two which is why i bought them.

Ive been pondering the idea of doing a half wall where my back seat used to be, keeping it under the window lines and behind the b pillar, subs up, port forward in the center, but dont wanna loose my rear seat for 1200WRMS. Altho im sure it would be louder then my 2cuft per sub sealed.

Edit: Its funny tho.. When i was asking what i should buy, and have three twelves in mind, everyone shot down the idea saying to go with 2 decent 15's. Now i got two 15's, and everyones shooting that idea down, saying to go with my first idea!

Absolutely no one is saying to go with 3 12s. We're saying that if you make one subwoofer done properly, you'll have better performance than adding another but done half-assed.

Guess ill try one 15 ported, and have a spare sub and amp just sitting around waisting space, Rather then trying to make it work.

Is the RE calc accurate?

What do you think about a half wall, below the window line and behind the B pillar? I was thinking subs up, double Flare port threw the armrest.

The car is basically a mid 80s cutlass / monte carlo / regal. it has a sunroof.

I was thinking i could half wall it for now, then later on after i get my secondary alt, a few more battery's, ect. i will buy another 2 RE SE's, and another orion 1200D, and do a full wall in a clamshell or something. I dont plan on competing, just wanna have a nice daily ground pounder.

I have 19D at the bottom, 24D at the top, 24/25H, and 54 wide to play with for a half wall. I believe the H goes up to 34 or 36 for a full wall. I really would like to fit the 2 15's in there ported. if it means giving up my backseat, Thats just less i gotta pay when i have my seats redone. With the two subs sealed in the box they are in, you can tell there are cancelation issues being the baffle is about 6" at most from the rear wall, And the top of the sub box touches the trunk lid when closed. Its tons louder with 1 15 sealed, but i was also feeding it about 200 more watts.

Also, so i dont have to waiste bandwidth for a new thread, Would it hurt to run two battery's under the hood? I know the idea is to keep the system batterys as close to the amps as possible, but if i relocate my charcole canister i can mount another battery on the drivers side, and id still have room for 2 in my spare tire well.
