I agree...I don't think I'll pick one up personally unless I can get the unit forTake it with a grain of salt. My experience has been with a few Alpine navigation systems so bear with me.
I have the CD7000 with the GPS system. Frankly, I don't care for it. I don't want to have to look at my radio, its a bit of a distraction where mine is located. I wanted audio confirmation as well as a visual and it doesn't do that.
Might not be worth price of admission.

That's not the GPS. That is the area shot. It's like a mobile mapquest.I hear you have to download the maps from the eclipse I-Serve website. And you have to input a home and destination address before you get a map. That just sounds like too much work. I have the CD7000, and I was going to get the GPS unit, but I don't want to be downloading the maps ever time I want use the GPS.

Global positioning satilite does not require mapping out a start and end destination on I-serve.
Would you rather read a piece of paper in your hand while driving, or push a button on your remote every turn? It's usefull. It saves me paper and ink. And time. Plenty of people find it usefull.Area shot is dumb. You have to tell it you made a turn so it tells you the next street and where to turn).
With the GPS add on, it will knows that you have reached the turning point and then tells you the next turning point automatically. But it only knows a very limited area on your route because you set the route up front.
