anyone understand welding?

What are the frames made out of??

I'd suggest finding a local tech school or community college and finding some welding classes you can take at night.

Its hard to tell you how to weld something when you've never welded anything before.

no me and skool dont mix,

clean area with grinder, clamp pieces, apply heat ?????

well...depending on the bikes frame it may be difficult. Welding aluminum isn't the best thing to learn on. and even if its a steel frame. It will be THIN. again not something you would want to learn on.

But If it were me. I would get a MIG welder for the job. They are pretty versitile and not hard at all to use. Another option would be a stick welder...wich maybe a tad to much for the job you are trying to do.

its only 1.5" steel tubeing?

not like im gonna attempt land speed records, just gotta hold around the block //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Welding is pretty hard for a beginner, because even with a MIG, you'll probably melt through. If you move too fast, the weld will be sloppy, if you move too slow, then it's still sloppy. There are alot of different techniques you can go with. It's harder than it looks, trust me. It's an art.

If you really want to learn how to weld, start with ARC welding, any monkey can use a MIG welder.

word.

i lloooooooove welding, thinking of making a profession of it.

and like they said, mig would probably be the easiest, if its aluminum though, just find someone to do it for you, and definately practice first.

and like someone else said, welding is an art.

I actually found ARC welding to be easier, but was thinking striking and welding with the rods on something like that would be more trouble than with a MIG or TIG

But, whatever floats his boat

TIG is a different story, but TIG is fun as hell to weld with.

I've found ARC harder to do RIGHT than MIG, with a MIG all you do is just pull a trigger, while ARC you have to strike the rod, then keep a consistant distace to the workpiece while the rod is getting shorter, etc. Then you have to chip the flux off before you lay another bead.
