Anyone SI 12" MAG d2 v4?

I'm not trying to thread jack but I just got the DIYMA R12 and if the Magv4 is anything like the R12 no one should be disappointed in the Mag. I've owned over 15 "Super" subs and I must say in terms of SQ this wins Hands down. It plays everything so effortlessly and does not beat a single beat (literally). I have it crossed at 100hz with a 12db slope and it sounds phenomenal. It plays the upper bass frequencies so well and is completely transparent. You cannot tell when the sub is playing, it just sounds if all of your speakers can go from 20khz down to 20 hz, and with authority. For $150 shipped why haven't people been all over this on Ca.com..... any that's my .02

I say pretty much the exact same things about my Mag V4. I had 2 in the truck to begin with and sadly sold the second before they were even broken in, but 2 took up too much room. Both were mounted between my front seats and 2 was enough to get silly/annoying with, and 1 is just ever soo right for amazing listening, specially when the sub is less than a foot from your seat.

With the Mag you will never know it is there absolutely transparent and NO distortion. The sub will bottom out without warning at all and the music will still sound clear, which is kinda scary lol. It is unlike anything I have every heard before, the musical information from 18hz (lowest we have tested on mine) up too 100hz will sound as is they are coming right out of your mids.

For the first time I can honestly say that I know exactly what you mean. I'm glad to see that they are some true SQ members on this forum. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif As soon as i put it in, i started taking pics of my Oz Audio matrix elite that was in my g/f's SUV b4 the r12, and is now up for sale

Jay,

Glad you like it, I love mine and will be getting a second here eventually. Not for the output, only because my amp likes 8ohm mono loads more than 4ohm, so a pair will do nicely.

My thought on why they aren't used more is pretty simple. Either everyone on here read the "great 12 challenge" done about 2 years ago, and took the results as fact, that it isn't a good driver, which if anyone ever gets the chance to listen to one you'll realize how off base that is. Or two, someone DID try one, ran 1k watts to it (thermal limits of the driver) and popped it in like 20 minutes, came back here crying about it and it got a bad name.

It wasn't mean to be a high output driver, but it easily plays loud enough for what I need, it was however, designed to be a small box, low distortion driver. In my opinion it does both of those extremely well.

The Mag was my first real dive into and SQ focused system so much of it is still quite new to me as well, but I am not looking back too much and enjoying this road. At first it took me quite a while to even realize it was playing unless I cut the Bass level on my 9887 down to zero, or if I put my hand up to the sub (its downfiring in the center console) Fills out the music soo perfectly.

The mag definitely is geared more closely to the DIYMA group as a whole than the CA.com group, however there are still a few on here who have heard it and enjoy it. Can't say its the end all be all SQ focused sub but its most certainly pretty darn good.

I have heard of one person popping on almost instantly but not too many. I personally have mine currently wired to 1ohm on my Sundown 1500D which most certainly is WAAAY too much power but I just keep it conservative and don't overwork it. Still scary when it bottoms out without warning //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif (only happened once though, but that was enough)

The thing about the DIYMA vs the Mag v4 is that the Mag v4 is a solid 20 lbs lighter, over 1.5" shallower, and realistically handles twice the power that the DIYMA does. Anything more than 500'ish watts to a DIYMA and you'll have the cone looking like it got hit with a shotgun blast. The cone on the DIYMA isn't up to par with the rest of the design IMO. With the Mag, you don't have to worry about it as much concerning shoving anything more than 500 watts to it. In the specified enclosure (1 ft^3 sealed) it will handle right up to/at 1000 watts before it starts talking back to you. And like jdc said, it gives zero warning before it does so because the stroke is so incredibly clean. The 'sound' doesn't change even though it's moving 90% of its capacity because the BL "curve" looks more like a plateau than anything else. No change in BL means no change in the sound characteristics of the driver. It's not like a traditional driver, or any other non-linear BL topology for that matter, that will exhibit changes in the way it sounds as you apply more and more power.

I agree with your statements about the DIYMA, Nick. Though they aren't big enough downfalls to sell mine and swap to a mag //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Well i do agree with the DIYMA r12 being a little fragile, i was looking at the cone and its very thin, thinner than the 12 tc2+ woofers i have in my g/f's mustang, although they look alot alike. I'd say in a truck 500 clean watts to one will be fine, but in a car, i'd like want 2 off of 1000 watts. I'm sure the Magv4 and go toe to toe with it, but the price difference is the one thing holding me back, although the mag is prices extremely fair IMO

Man, I sure miss your posts here Nick //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
Not as much as I miss you trolling SI threads. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Let me see how many Mach 5 threads I've trolled......

...wait....

..I think we'll be waiting for a while while I find them...if any.

Neat. Nick- can you explain, in your own words, why I prefered the idq to the mag? I mean in your own words, I dont like the mag because it has si on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif explain please? i gave it a fair shot, in a 1 cu ft sealed box, and plain didnt like it. must be that darn logo on the cone and not the fact that it was plain and simple.... junk, huh? grow the fuck up dude. not everyone is going to like everything you make. we dont ALL worship you and your wiggins driver.
LOL if the only problem you have with the mag is the logo that is pretty darn good then! i might have to get one for my SQ ride then thanks for helping me make the decision to go with si! i was a little torn between a pile of sh!t and something proven to be great. i may have a blank dustcap that i can cover up the si logo with if it bothers me but its just a logo to me. who cares who he did it with 2 heads are better than one! wiggins hasnt he made things like adire? wow that man has been in business for a while doing great things leading the industry why wouldnt he want to get with him to make a idea better?

great opinion though thanks for the input //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbcool.gif.25d3f515a7f948dd6be51428263071ef.gif

Because you like distortion?

Stop being a ****ing douche just because you didn't like it. Great you like the IDQ more, ****ing awesome I think we figured that out after the third or fourth time you said it. Get the ****ing baton out of your rectum, and stop being a little ****ing ***** every time someone starts a topic about a driver you don't like.
