anyone running dual alternators?

i'm looking into running dual alternators, 1 for the truck's electrical, and 1 for the amps only-2nd battery also. i know eveyyone is going to suggest 1 big alternator, problem is i'm runninga suburban that CAME with a 140 amp factory so to step up to a 300 amp with the ext regulator and wiring harness i'm getting quoted $900 or so which is just not doable. i can get another 140 amp like i have for $175 then make brackets and buy a good battery for another $250 of so and be set. any suggestions would be appreciated, or even better any sources for brackets would be even better. thanks in advance.

Use 4awg wire when you connect all the wiring for the second alternator. Can't really give you any help on the subject beyond that except a link to a short tutorial on adding a second alternator.

Well, as for the battery, you can certainly find an Optima Yellowtop for less than $250. In fact, thezeb.com has them listed for $174.99.

As for the bracket, you'd probably have to get a local machine shop to fabricate one for you if you can't do so yourself. Or maybe you can find someplace that sells them, but I'm not sure of any places like that.

If your capable of making some cardboard templates that you need to mount your new alt.....Send them to me and I'll build the brackets for you at no charge (you pay shipping of course )

that's really cheap, we sell them where i work for 189, and i saw a price of 164 and thought it was a really good price.
