Anyone put sub on package tray?

In toying with ideas on sub placement, one of my ideas is a shallow-mount in a shallow box bolted on top of the package tray behind the rear seats; with dark cloth or something over the sub to conceal it from predators. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I never hear of anyone doing this; anything wrong with it? I can't afford to lose ANY trunk space.

Just thinking if I ever want/need to upgrade.

Thanks guys!

I don't like the thought of free-air; would prefer to build a little box and put a regular sub in it. Why don't more people do this? Blocks the window? I have the smallish wrx wing so my rearview vision is already slightly impaired. It's a big open space... I'd think it would get utilized more.

Why?

You could run infinite baffle using your trunk, but you'd want to seal it up nicely. Or you could create an enclosure that hangs down into the trunk, simply firing the wooer(s) up through the rear deck. It's been down, and can be done. Just some more work than other ideas.

if you aren't afraid of fiberglass, the possibilities are vast. more so, if you are willing to relieve the deck for motor clearance and build a bucket to seal up the back-side.

nope never tried anything like that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

^^ that is legit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Free air you have none of the control a box gives you; I've had the thought of building an enclosure into the rear deck and I'm curious to start with fiberglass...I need to read more on it though. I'd like to tuck an 8 or 10 behind the passenger-side rear headrest in a small fiberglass enclosure... My Dremel is being mailed from Cali and I have a drill. I have access to my gf's woodshop at her school... where I could make the MDF ring I suppose... hmmm...

Need to read more on glassing.
