Anyone possibly know what the problem might be?

Ok, so my trucks was running and great and fine and everything electrical was functioning normally as it should, I parked it for five minutes, came back out and it wouldn't start. Thought it may have been the battery because the starter was a re-manufactured starter that wasn't installed too long ago. Attempted to jump it off but even then it still wouldn't start.

Finally the next day, bought a new battery, installed it and it wouldn't start at first, then for one time, it did start. Drove it back to the house, but I noticed when it was started the cruise control, CD player, window wipers etc. wouldn't come on or work. Also the gauges on the dash wouldn't move until about 30 secs after the engine had started. Once parked at the house I checked all the fuses to make sure none were blown, none of the fuses were blown in the interior fuse block nor in the power distribution block. Also yet again, the truck wouldn't start.

I also noticed if I put the key in the "accessories" position, the CD player, windshield wipers, and everything worked fine. Finally took it to a mechanic who narrowed the "can't start' problem down to a faulty starter, installed a new starter and now it starts but the CD player and etc still will not work with the engine on. So I took the truck back to the mechanic and they installed a new starter switch and the issue still remained so now they think that there my be a burnt up wire or something and they're currently trying to trace the wires to see if they can find it to fix it.

Any idea on what could possibly be causing this weird problem?

well, from your studies, im going to have to guess that its probably a burnt up wire or something that a mechanic will have to trac to see if they can find it to fix it, specifically.
Funny it would do this the week I finally get my box in to complete my system after all the crap this past summer.

The mechanic seems to think that all the car audio equipment caused a surge which shorted out this "fuse" and that I need to get a capacitor or something.

everyone that thinks they know something about cars, but doesn't know about car audio, thinks car audio is somehow the culprit of every electrical issue the car ever has (in my experience)

Try your relays corrosion can cause problems take the relays out and slam firmly and squarley on a table them plug in firmly. This may do it...Van

I had that same issue in my Ford, so I said EFF IT, cut out my ignition switch, and use a toggle/push button to replace it. Solved /problem.

I don't worry about anyone stealing my truck though, but you may want to replace the keyed switch.
