anyone looking to buy a ps3

I just got one on the sony style store with their credit card. You get 150 dollars back on ur statement so thats like $250 for a new 80 gig PS3 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

^^40 gb //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

lol...I see you caught on before I wrote that. Are you referring to backwards compatibility?

the 40gb has no PS2 backwards compatibility, the 80gb will play about 75% of the ps2 games. no brainer for me, i dont play any ps2 games
thanks for helping me not make a mistake (and not flaming the hell out of me) my sons have around 100 PS2 games that they play so i guess i need the 80GB.

The new 80 gigs have no backwards compatibility either.

Probably would be cheaper to just keep the PS2 and get a PS3 with no backwards compatibility. Then you have full support for the PS2 and a PS3 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah it does. The 80gb is BW compatible, about 80-90% of PS2 games will work.

Basically sony in an effort to lower the price of their system ditched the whole idea of backwards compatibility. Your two best options would be

1. Get a 20 gig or 60 gig PS3 on ebay which has full backwards compatibility

yes it is, it has Software Emulating Backwards compatibility. The 40gb does not. The older 60gb had FULL backwards compatibility.

Yeah it does. The 80gb is BW compatible, about 80-90% of PS2 games will work.
Not the new one, there were two versions of the 80 gig. The old one that cost 499 and the new core that cost 399 (This is they only one they sell new now)

The 40gb can't do PS1 or PS@ at all. The 20 and 60gb will play 90-95% of all Ps1 or PS2 games. When the 80gb came out, it had problems trying to play PS1 and PS2 gaems. That issue has beeen fixed. You have to download an update disk just like the xbox360 and load it to your PS3.

Darkhunter, you got it mixed up. It's the newer ones that can play BW.
