Anyone know who they're voting for in 2008?

Death is not a punishment... in fact many of them have the warrior mentality where death in battle would be an honor (my best friend/marine being one of them)... I imagine that mentality is in the minority but they are volunteers. Death is an occupational hazard for the military. Every military death is truly unfortunate though, I'd give two civilians for every one soldier.
I can tell you being an ex-Marine that every soldier goes to war knowing they can die. I volunteered and served in Kosovo. Every soldier who serves front lines has a 'warrior mentality'. You can't volunteer to have other human beings shoot at your *** trying to kill you w/o it.

Do we get scared? Always. Do we want to die? Never, but we go into combat with our eyes wide open.

Next time you see a soldier in uniform, talk to them. They don't bite too hard.

apparently
you have a fake tomb stone in your avatar afterall.
Cinema is a good outlet for what is normally considered a serious fear. That tombstone happens to be from a movie. Have you ever laughed something off to get relief from a stressful situation? Sometimes coping with an issue involves facing it.

My buddy who died in Iraq the other day from an IED said before he left that if was going to die young, better it be for his country than anything else. However, It doesn't justify our reason for being over there. When was the last time you heard of a soldier dying from a gun shot? We are over there getting shot at, driving over explosives, but not shooting back. This isn't a war. We are babysitting.

Iraq is part of a larger strategy, a fight against "terrorism" or "radical islam".... it sounds very cliche at this point but it still has truth. Countries who sponsor terrorism (Iran, Syria, etc with thier indirect backers Russia and China) need to fall and have their power given to the people.

It's kind of like the fight against Communism...

ehh...going a little far there. At the base I work at, some have been to Iraq and fought. I would consider them soldiers.
Maybe, but they will not be able to clean up their image until they give platestacker the boot. The whole world is watching to see how the USAF handles that particular mess it finds itself in.

I just got married and my best man wore his dress blues.

I still regret not signing up... I may get the chance yet...

I appreciate it...

I understand... However as you know, our fight against Communism didn't turn out very well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif We are repeating history in hopes to change the outcome... We cannot police a world that does not desire our services. Combatting terrorism needs to be a world wide effort... We cannot do it alone, and right now we do not have the support we need to get the job done.

With all that being said, I hope for a positive outcome in Iraq... It just doesn't seem likely. The United States is not prepared for another Vietnam. Don't you agree?

He's in the airforce, they're not really even soldiers.... they're not even really national guard.
Wow, talk about a dumbass comment. Try talking to someone in the AF besides platestacker before you post this garbage. Being AF I can tell you that we are out there putting our life on the line just like all the other branches. Maybe not as much as the others, but many friends and family(including my wife) are over in Iraq as we speak/post.
