all the ones i've seen in person(quite a few), you can see without the light. it just looks like a slightly faded scar..

it is pretty sweet though. about a year ago I thought about doing one like the top of that guys arm, but i was going to do it on a section of my ribcage. i decided against it incase i put on some weight when i'm fourty lol
