i had the kvt 717dvd and i would imagine its the higher model. Anyway I didnt like it too much it sounded pretty good but the menu looks old. Like the resolution looks horrible as if it was made in the early 2000s or early 90s or something. like it only has 16 colors or something. I dont like how the buttons look on it they make it look cheap overall it looked cheap to me but it was still a screen with dvd player. i would probably take that clarion over it. oh yea it even had problems with ejecting DVDs/CDs sometimes.. and its a common problem for it

I had a KVT-717 and I like my current cd/mp3 unit better then I did my $1200 KVT-717. Don't buy if you ask me. I like Kenwood, just not their screens. Save up and go with an Alpine, Eclipse, or Clarion. Then you get your moneys worth.

617 has 2v preouts i think the 717 has 4v, they went backwards with options on the new model.

I cannot speak to their in-dash DVD units having no direct experience with any of them but as far as normal, single-DIN headunits I would have to strongly disagree.

They lost heaps of business (and popularity) during the years of the ill-fated D-Mask+ faceplate mechanism but since they discontinued that idiocy it would appear that they have been making some pretty strong strides towards rebuilding product quality.

I'm a die-hard Kenwood loyalist and cannot see that I'll be buying anything but eXcelon units for some time to come...

IDK. I like the quality and sound from pioneer premier and alpine units. BBE processing is also pimptacular. I havent been impressed by a kenwood in a long time.
