Anyone here a welder?

as the title says...but weld as job. im going back to school for some welding but dotn know exactly where i want to go with it. any help would be great, just throw some ideas at me, as long as its about becoming a welder. im pretty dead set on that part. we have locomotive rail car shops local and a steel plant but other than that there are no "big business jobs" around here. thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

I don't weld professionally, but I have welded and I'm ok at it.

My brother was in a welding program during high school. Didn't continue with it because he said he didn't want to chip slag for 10 years before actually doing welding.

Are you looking for occupation ideas? I know there is a ton of work here in washington for welders. Seems that the navel shipyards are always hiring, buidling bridges, putting up bat houses (yeah didnt know they did that either), and I know places like SETINA are always looking for qualified welders. I think my brother has fired 6 since the begining of the year because they had no clue what they were doing.

Then again welding can just be fun. I took a bunch of classes in high school and have debated about becoming certified, but I only use welding to make cages n a few artsy fartsy things.

I had a PA horn hit me in the head once because it was JB Welded on when part of it had cracked off.

It hurt.

So, I don't want to think about it on a bridge.

That would really hurt.

I don't know what that is but the way your explaining it, it sounds heavy.

I dont know all the certification you need but.........

At my work we are currently adding on ,the welders that work for us are making about

25-30/hr. I dont know if thats great or not but it seems pretty good

I know they have to be PSM aprroved and MSSA aprroved, im sure thay have about 100 certs to work in the gas plant
