Anyone have any tips about living in college dormrooms?

lol i blocked out my windows in my room to help insulate it a bit.... its dark. lol.
Haha I did the same thing in my bedroom when I first moved away for school (I had a baseball scholarship at a juco by STL so we rented a townhouse because they didn't have dorms there). But then when I transfered to Eastern Illinois I got conned into the apt with no windows and I couldn't stand the lack of sunlight. It's so much better to have the option of no sunlight then to be forced into living in darkness all year //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

get involved in all the activities you can. dorm floors usually have intramural football teams they put together and when i was in college we had dorm parties on the roof. always look for free food. just be active and dont sit around all the time.

lol. i'm in a cinder block room. about 500 sq feet. bathroom (small but full), kitchen, and its pretty big actually.... only have a 6000 btu window AC and since insulation in this thing is pretty much non-existant.... its 85.5 in here right now lol. I blocked out the windows and put 3 diff types of weather stripping up around the door and its helped cool it down a few degrees but not enough... gonna go get me a 10-12K btu unit next week //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Definitely get involved. Studies show that students who are active in their school are much less likely to drop out/leave school or be put on academic probation //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif There are always free events/food for freshmen. GO.

I would also recommend leaving the big TV, stereo, drum set //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif, whatever you have that's loud, big, or both at home. Space is at a premium in a dorm room.

Good luck!

Some tips:

1. Don't bring too much crap with you, only the essentials as space is usually at a premium.

2. Use flip flops in the shower as well as body wash instead of soap.

3. Get to know your hall mates and establish a social circle. You will have much more fun plus you can mooch if you get low on money.

4. Eat as healthy as you can because beer + fast food = freshman 15.

5. Study first, party after!

unless it's a flatscreen TV of course. My mom just bought me rockband for my 360...and while I'm excited...theirs a lot of shit to that game. The drums are big....

lmao x2. Mine was. He was a ****ing loser. Some are fine, though - but I would try to avoid it at all costs.

You're not really going to be in your dorm room that much anyway, so don't sweat it. Space doesn't matter all that much since you won't be there except to sleep, watch movies, and sometimes study. So my advice is to bring some cool shit, especially seating. People will want to come to your room and hang out, and it'll be easier to make friends. Just make sure people don't steal your cool shit. I went to a college 2,000 miles away my freshman year and didn't bring much, and I hated not having some nice things. I'm transferring for my sophomore year and i'm bringing a full sized couch, a big-*** sound system, and my roommate has a big mini-fridge and a 34" flatscreen. It's gonna be ballin!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Make sure you have teh audioz!

Keep an open mind when meeting new people, and get to know a lot of people. And keep up your connections, you never know when you'll need those dorm mates in the future //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

Also, if you have trouble studying with noise, get good headphones!

Get wet wipes for the bathroom cause the toilet paper is usually the thinnest stuff ever, and you may have to wipe the seat a lot before you sit on it.

Get febreeze in case your roommate is smelly

parmalat milk if you like cereal

I've lived in dorms the past 2 years of my life.

Make friends on your floor.

I developed a group of about 10-12 dudes on my floor and we went around terrorizing other floors.

We became pretty known in the building (12 floors)

We called our floor K4 - Building name was Kerr, we live don 4th floor. We developed a dick reputation and pulled pranks on everyone.

Also the halls have Resident Assistants... Which are like the 'event leaders' for the floors. they're all usually d bags and we messt with them at all costs.

However, study when u get back from class, finish any work you have before you have fun @ night, because once i got into dorm life schedule... 3am was an early bedtime.

So basically make friends and have fun.
