Anyone have any experience building computers?

Budget?
Intended use of computer?
Under 1k

Basically just want it to run smoothly and be able to play games (It doesnt need to run them on the highest settings possible just be able to run RTS games mainly pretty good)

The 8800 GT is faster than the 9600 GT, so why the hell would he consider a downgrade ? Plus the HD 3870 is priced similarly to the 9600 GT and is also faster (not to mention quieter) ...

If you're mainly playing RTS games, the biggest factor is going to be your CPU, not your GPU. If you have the patience, I would wait until Intel puts out their 45 nm quad cores as they'll offer up a better value than what's currently available ... either that or overclock the Q6600 ...

I'd go with AMD over Intel, just better build quality to me
Only problem is that AMD doesn't have any quad core CPUs to compete w/ Intel's Quads. The current AMD quads are priced well-below what Intel's cheapest Quad is, but they also don't perform as well as Intel's cheapest Quad, either.
If we were talking dual core CPUs and not overclocking, I'd probably take AMD over Intel based on the fact that they're usually 10-15% cheaper for the same performance at stock speeds (at least here in Canada).

Nope, not now, AMD is being ***** by Intel. I'm an AMD maniac and unfortunately right now amd is getting butt ***** in CPU design.

Intel quad core

Nvidia 8800 series

2gb Corsair xms - Kingston - OCZ - Ballistixs (sp?) - some other high end RAM

Asus Mobo

Nice case

feel free to PM me if you need some help, I've built 10 or so customs for friends and family, and have A+ cert.

I was going to go with 4 gb ram I think I can fit it in my budget. And does this mobo look good and will it work with the vid card and cpu im getting?

EDIT: I should probably post the link lol

look at patriot ram. Smaller company, pretty good prices, lifetime warranty, fast, lots of kits. Give it a look.

and yeah... LOL Intel's fab's are much more advanced than AMD's... All those Tri-core CPUs are just the flawed quadcores with 1 core disabled because they cant make a working product. But yeah... those flawed quad cores are of much better quality than Intel's fully functioning quad core...
