anyone have a dune buggy/sandrail?

I'm pretty sure this guy is looking at rails with vdub motors on the back. A vw 1600 is alot more power then a 250. It's a nice rail though, I'd sport it.
anyone got one? im lookin for one. i dont want the ugly kind with the fiberglass bodies, i want the kinds with the rollcage that look like huge go carts. anyone know any info about them? im trying to find one for a few grand thats already built and running and just needs maybe a few things, but overall good condition (ive seen a few around already i gotta go look at)
if not, i found a place that sells chassis' that they make for you and weld together, then i guess do you just get a donor old VW bug and use the engine/etc?
idk, i thought he meant the 250's. I have been looking for a vw frame to build up but haven't had much luck. I need something more serious. I might drop my cbr600f2 engine into the buggy.

dune buggies are some of the funnest times you can have. any season! my father owns an air cooled VW business. he races an old school karmann ghia and weve got 3 rails. his are better then mine of course, that basterrd, but some of the funnest times regardless. to have the real fun, i suggest an actually rail buggy with at least a 1600cc. if your gonna do it, do it right. im sure those odysseys are fun and all, but nothing like a rail

I sold my sad rail this year...
Just reading your OP, it sounds like you don't know much about them. Your first step is to learn. Best way is to find a group of people that go out duning and tag along for a few trips.

You can spend $8k or so on a decent beater in the cycle trader.

$30k will buy you a very nice rail with a few goodies attached.

$100k+ will buy you a monster.

My next rail is going to be light, strong and nible.

2 seater

Beam car @ 8" over (like them better for strength)

16" front travel

18" rear travel

Mid engine

3.5L honda- built

turbo - @ 15 lbs w/ intercooler

8:1 cr with meth injection for pump gas

Mendeola sdr transaxle

Trying to keep it under 1600 lbs and under $40k

vrooom!!!
im not looking for one to go in dunes or in the sand, theres not much of that around FL where im at. i just want one for fun, one thats street legal, and ill drive it around on the street (not anywhere far, but just to drive every couple days)

my uncle has one and he drives it every few days to work, etc, its fun just riding in it, and when i drove it, i want one now lol

Thats what I consider a rail, those things are sick.

All the others that have been posted arent really rails
A few of them are..

The little ones are hardly rails though..

More like glorified go carts...

Those can be fun though..

Me? I need at least 200 hp in a 1200 lb car, otherwise it seem s s s sluggish..

Here my old "beater" that I sold for $8500...

Had a lot more than that in to it though.. Hard to get it back once you spend it on a rail...

This one had a 3.4L gm engine. The 60 degree that was the replacement for the early S-10 trucks and later made it in the beretta and the v6 camaro...

I was pushing 8.5 psi with a cr of 9:1 with 110 octane..

She would scoot, but did not have much travel..

Very clean little rail though..

Not really a sand rail but I always wanted a Honda Oddesy. My fathers friend had one and let me drive it when I was younger. Too bad I don't have a place to keep or ride one
I have an oddessy with a 440! And my kx 250 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif
