Anyone from the Gulfcoast?

I understand there is some historical value there, but let's be logical here.
The town resides in an area surrounded by water and is below sea level. That's not exactly optimum living conditions especially when hurricanes are commonplace in the area.

It is just going to be a waste of money to rebuild again and have another hurricane come in 5 years and decimate the whole place again.

This wouldn't be the first time that a "historical" area would be destroyed by mother nature, so what makes new orleans so much better that people want the government to spend billions rebuilding it for the 2nd time? This is mother nature's way of saying "don't be stupid enough to live here".

Don't build your house in antarctica and then complain about when it snows.
so whats the point of living in california bc of earthquakes?? or up north in new york new jersey bc of icestorms?? an if you really knew anything people dont complain about living down here. they love it. but its just one of those thingns that is a drawback of living down here. apparently you couldnt do it so stay up in illinois an let us deal with this.

Still raining here, though its just been hit and miss. Had 2 Tornado warnings early this morning around 3 and 4, heard the alert siren in town, something I have not heard in years.

So far, things are ok, im hoping the worst has passed though....

im in covington witch is about 30 miles from NOLA. power went out at like 8 this morning. just gettin wind an rain right now. had a tornado warning at like 930 but nothin after that. the storm died which i knew it would. who ever said something earlier about it bein a cat5 when it hit was dumb. the gulf was hella cooler than most people realized an it killed the storm. it was very unorganized an for it being just a cat2 at landfall was a good thing. hopefully most of LA will be up in running within the next few days.

If it's a risk you're willing to take, then by all means go for it.

I'm not going to keep arguing back and forth with people from louisiana. You all have one viewpoint and the rest of us have another. No amount of bickering or complaining of "historical value" will change that.

winds are getting around 60 mph here...i saw one nice size tree outside was snapped like a matchstick...i'm not sure how the 100+ year old oak trees are taking it behind my house...i'm sure i'll have some major cleanup...if one don't go through the house.....i hear limbs and things snapping and popping pretty bad out there....electricity has been out for a while ...so i'm not sure how long the laptop bat will stay charged...the good news is i have plenty of beer as long as it stays cold //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
