Anyone familiar with Linux?

I teach Linux, Solaris, AIX and Microsoft for the US Government. First thing I would say about any linux. If you would rather use a GUI, then don't buy Linux.

Linux is an excellent OS, and can accommedate just about anyone who wants reliability and a sort of Showtime Rotisserie for computers. You just set it and forget it. That being said, the GUI, no matter whether it is CDE, GNOME, KDE or any of the others, are nothing but memory hogs.

If you decide you want a GUI, then stay with OSX...that OS is still UNIX based (FreeBSD) and the GUI is integrated into the OS. I like to try different types of Linux, but if I want a GUI atmosphere and a server, so far I haven't found anything that can touch the MS Win2003 SERVER.

Not familiar with Linux, but I am familiar with your ex-g/f's *****. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

j/k man, take it easy. Actually I have done a few things w/ Mandrake.

It was ok. I used it in a class in which Linux/Unix was being taught. Fairly easy to operate. I liked the idea of how you could have multiple windows (desktops)
Ubuntu has the same thing. You can have 4 desktops in it. Not sure if you can change it to more or not but def a cool feature.
