Anyone familiar with Linux?

I am gonna install Ubuntu Linux on my G5 and am wondering if anyone has any experience with it. Seems like a very nice OS. Very simple interface. Was gonna do it tomorrow but my DL just jumped to 383KB/sec so it looks like I should have the 700mb file in about 20 minutes. Well, any opinions would be appreciated.

I dont mind em occasionally. I have to use them at times in my Terminal window on my mac since I run OS X and its UNIX based.

I love ubuntu, a lot simpler than gentoo which is what I used to use. I use ubuntu to run my mythbox

I installed it on a friends computer and he likes it so far but said he cant figure out how to disconnect from the net...lol. It connects automatically when he opens the browser but he cant figure out how to disconnect. Other than that he likes it. Only other prob he is having is that it wont save files where he wants it to. It says it cant save it to the desktop etc...

I just started using Ubuntu the other week, i really love it so far.

You'll have to copy and paste a few things here and there to get some stuff working (like mp3 support,) but its worth it and its easy to get the hang of if you spend enough time with it.

Takes time to get used to. I know I avoided using that computer when I had too, was such a pain. But I guess if you got used to it, it would be nice.

yeah, I noticed there isnt a ton of hardware support built in.

lol, the only reason I want to try it is the interface seems to be fairly simple. Probably wont use it for long though. OSX is so much nicer.

Actually thats not true...

I was really impressed when it recognized my Soundblaster Extigy out of the box... Not even Winblows recognized it...

I tried it on my friends comp and didnt think it recognized the modem. Found out it did once the phone line was plugged in. That was a nice thing. Has a few quirks but overall he likes it better than XP Pro
