Anyone ever tried Kenwood?(*pics*)

I traded a 12" L5 with a bent corner so you have to mount it inverted for a pair of 6.5" Kenwood KFc-1680ie's They are 40rms so i think i will put them on an amp since i have one. Anyone ever tried these or heard them. How are the SQ wise? I traded because i had no use for the L5 and wanted some newer front speakers.

^^ ahahaha good one. i tried with a **** sledge, rubber maller, all sort of tools and it was not possible for me to accomplish that task. If so i would have kept it and put it in a nice box and hooked it up to my home theater @ 8ohm

thanks i think so too. i am just going for SQ and was wondering how they were since i havnt had a chance to install them yet. I dont thnk i will be able to hook them up until the weekend i am kinda busy. and yes... i agree they are pretty sexy thanx

Sorry to burst your bubble, but even the upper end Excelon components are average at best. For an SQ install, I wouldn't consider any coaxials. Those would probably be good for rear fill though. If you insist on coaxs for the front, look into some Pioneer REVs

and these prolly **** because they seem to be low end, but why are component sets better? You mount the tweeter close as possible and there is a woofer and tweeter. how are they different than coaxils, besides a crossover. Does the big hole in a coaxil woofer where the tweet goes have anything to do with it

The advantage of a component set over coaxs is this:

First, they generally feature better materials.

They allow you to spearte the frequencies with a more sophisticated crossover, so each part plays the frequencies it produces best.

Since you are dealing with separate peaces, they allow for much better imaging than coaxials, because you can move each piece independently. Mounting the tweet as close to the woofer as possible is NOT how you get good imaging. It is different for each car, and each speaker. The only way to properly image your speakers is by moving them around and finding out what sounds best.

ok well that is what i thought about imaging i just read on here somewhere, i cant remeber what it was, but dude said to put the tweeter as close as possible to the woofer. every keeps thinking that i really want coaxils... yes, but only because i will have this car for a year and i would like to buy some rainbow germaniums when i get a new car in a year so this is a "free" upgrade in my case.

Think it will be worth putting 40rms to these instead of w/e my HU puts out, or would that be a waste of time?

Coaxs generally do fine on HU power.

I've got some 1739ie's. They are OK if I cross them over around 80hz, otherwise they don't seem to like much power.

i had the components from the same year (when they used to sell them at best buy) and they were actually pretty decent.

not the BEST of the best, but they were solid speakers, no doubt.

i had the kenwood excelon 4x6 before the rainbows

the x's were an upgrade from stock, and sounded OK at best. not much midbass, boring tweeter, bad power handling, etc. they were a good beginner set yes, but they are FAR FAR FAR away from SQ speakers. those are probably 75 dollar speakers and are just ordinary speakers, nothing special. just a heads up, if you're used to high end speakers, you wont like em
