Anyone ever go to Chernobyl?

400 meters is as close as anyone is aloud now.Even at that distance, the radiation level is to cause harm if you stay there to long.
yeah...its safe unless you pretty much live there. The red forest would be cool as hell to see too.

Sooner or later, we're not going to be allowed to go, and i want to go before than.

im not gonna post it but look up children of chernobyl on youtube. but not if you cant handle some seriously strong images
i havnt seen it, but im probably betting its showing a bunch of deformed children, from Ukraine and Belarus? If so, i find it hard to believe...

lolz ryan...

I have some issues with that video...first off, Belarus had had a verrry bad human defect and infant death rate before the accident at Chernobyl. This was because in the 80's Belarus was a very under developed country. And many of there facts in the video are skewered quite a bit. Chernobyl did not happen because of a routine test. Im one of the many who believe that the media and everyone else blew Chernobyl out of proportion

its [retty legit. there are a few deformed children but the real problem and what the video is about is the children having heart problems from the radiation. my chemistry professor has been there and studied the area. he said that mutations and deformities are 100% real. they are becoming a bit of a rarity today but mainly in animals in certain places in the danger zone. keep in mind the radiation isnt just like all the same within a certain raduis of reactor 4 its blotched throughout the area.

heart problems were not the main problem. Thyroid Cancer was/is. I still dont buy it, ive researched it quite a bit, and im not going to say no one had any sort of deformities due to it. As im sure there are some, but for the majority, im willing to bet many of the children in that video have had no effect from Chernobyl.

Just found this article.....

"Today, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant sits inside a fenced area known as the Exclusion Zone. Radioactive remnants of the failed reactor linger inside the so-called sarcophagus, a 24-story concrete and steel encasement hastily erected after the accident. Leaky and structurally unsound, it now threatens to collapse, shaking loose enough radiation to cause a second disaster of similar magnitude. Work has started on a new encasement, which will slide over the existing sarcophagus to seal in the remaining nuclear fuel - at an estimated cost of 2 billion dollars."

With that, I would WAIT until the build a new structure.

Or you hair may just start to fall out sooner.......
According to Igor Gramotkin, Director-General of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, facility administration hopes completion of the facility's New Safe Confinement structure will occur in 2013. Design delays have pushed back the structure's expected completion date.

im talking about currently not in the 90s lol.

Fukushima Update

The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) reports that the Japanese are making progress today to

restore cooling to the reactors and water to the fuel pools at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear

site.

Crews used fire truck pumps to spray water into the fuel pools of units 3 and 4, and external

electric power sources are being connected to units 1 and 2. Similar power connections to

units 3 and 4 are expected within the next 12 to 24 hours. Power has been restored to units

5 and 6.

Radiation releases at Fukushima do not pose a threat to public health, according to doctors

and U.S. federal agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and the Environmental

Protection Agency.

In Japan, the government is working within the international framework on radiation safety

and emergency response. These actions are designed to protect citizens, including

monitoring food supplies and issuing advisories, if necessary, on restrictions on certain food

products.

The U.S. nuclear industry recognizes many citizens have concerns regarding the situation

in Japan, and the industry is responding on many fronts.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission issues Information Notice

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) on Friday issued an information notice to all

currently operating nuclear power plants in the United States. The notice reflects the

current understanding that the combined effects of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami

exceeded the Fukushima Daiichi plant’s design limits. The notice also recounts the

regulatory and industry efforts to enhance U.S. plants’ abilities to cope with severe events.

The NRC expects the nation’s nuclear industry to review the document and consider actions

as appropriate. The NRC is also continuing to assess the implications of “beyond design

basis” natural events, including developing instructions for the NRC to independently

assess a nuclear power plant’s readiness to address such events and identifying any

actions that may need to be taken.

This is the latest update we got at my plant today about the Japanese Nuclear Plant. Just in case anyone is interested and wants some actual facts about it.

I just heard on the news a couple hours ago smoke was seen rising from one or two of the reactors, and plant workers were evacuated again today. I dont know if that info, or the info deafwish posted, is the most up to date though.
