In relation to Iceteebone's comment:
everybody says how bad american cars are, but i've owned american cars with 250,000 miles and yet to have any problems with them.
Because you got lucky.
Experiences with cars are largely random. Some people hate a brand or like a brand, it's all just chance.
History:
1990 or so Dodge Dakota - Ran great till it was hit by an exploding semi tire and was junked
1992 Toyota Corolla - The body is gone but the engine still runs lol. Had to replace a water pump but it's expected at its age. Still running today.
1994 Dodge Caravan - Absolutely flawless, had to return because of lease //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
1998 Ford Windstar - Total lemon. Just poor performance and over all finish.
1999 Dodge Dakota - Ran great for a while but now has many serious problems.
2001 Dodge Caravan - Runs great and has had no problems
2002 Toyota Camry - So far doing well, no major problems
2005 Chevy Silverado - Running perfect but it's practically brand new.
Take Dodge which we have owned the most of. Some are bad some are good. I'm sure if we owned more Fords some of them would have been just peachy.
There's a good book on looming globalization called The World is Flat that would explain this phenomenon much better. There really isn't anything we can do here in America. Other places are better suited to produce things than our country in this modern age. Dark times are ahead for the majority of the populace as the economy starts getting more and more caustic as it swings trying to find a balance against the entire world. Much like a VCR tracking a tape, it goes real bad than the opposite side real bad than closer and closer till you get a good picture.
