anyone affected by ford layoffs?

In relation to Iceteebone's comment:

everybody says how bad american cars are, but i've owned american cars with 250,000 miles and yet to have any problems with them.

Because you got lucky.

Experiences with cars are largely random. Some people hate a brand or like a brand, it's all just chance.

History:

1990 or so Dodge Dakota - Ran great till it was hit by an exploding semi tire and was junked

1992 Toyota Corolla - The body is gone but the engine still runs lol. Had to replace a water pump but it's expected at its age. Still running today.

1994 Dodge Caravan - Absolutely flawless, had to return because of lease //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

1998 Ford Windstar - Total lemon. Just poor performance and over all finish.

1999 Dodge Dakota - Ran great for a while but now has many serious problems.

2001 Dodge Caravan - Runs great and has had no problems

2002 Toyota Camry - So far doing well, no major problems

2005 Chevy Silverado - Running perfect but it's practically brand new.

Take Dodge which we have owned the most of. Some are bad some are good. I'm sure if we owned more Fords some of them would have been just peachy.

There's a good book on looming globalization called The World is Flat that would explain this phenomenon much better. There really isn't anything we can do here in America. Other places are better suited to produce things than our country in this modern age. Dark times are ahead for the majority of the populace as the economy starts getting more and more caustic as it swings trying to find a balance against the entire world. Much like a VCR tracking a tape, it goes real bad than the opposite side real bad than closer and closer till you get a good picture.

my dad never came close to 80K in 30 years at ford's. the most he pulled in was about 50-55K. usually between 40-50K. my uncle works at the GM tech center and he doesn't even make that much.
hmmm. starting pay here at the engine plant is $18+ my g/f's uncle works there and knocks down close to $1600 a week after 36 years. But he's been at top pay for like 30 years and the only raises he got after that was cost of living increases.

my dad is making about $24 an hour. they had to have made more then $18 an hour or worked shit tons of overtime which i doubt ford would do

plus they have to compete with 3 other major companies here in town like General Dynamics--the only manufacturer of the Abrahms tank--, Valero oil refinery, and my employer Procter&Gamble. Top pay at these facilities is all in excess of $30/hr for hourly employees.

here they have to compete with GM and chrysler

i just find it hard to believe ford in ohio pays nearly double as in michigan. i hate it when people think because you work for the big 3 you are lazy and shit like that. working in a factory is not fun. you earn your money. i cannot believe people last 30 years at these places

I'm sorry to hear about people losing there jobs at ford. I read somewhere there letting go 5,000 white collar jobs. I hope the plant in Norfolk, Va dont get hit. Theres alot of people I know worked there. If Ford built cars that people want then they wouldn't have been in this mess. They also had the biggest recalls.

When Explorers started flipping (Ford knew this would happen before the first production Explorer was ever built), Ford blamed the tires. The tire company then completely revamped itself and came out stronger than ever although there was nothing wrong with their tires in the first place. Meanwhile, those Explorers are STILL flipping to this day. No recalls.
