serious thread here but I have a question for who ever is a mechanic.

girls car is a 2007 or 2008 Honda civic hybrid. today the ac went warm so I recharged the ac like normal. while charging the system I heard it blow off as if over charged. I cut the vehicle off and threw the remaining portion of the can away. it ****** the first can down empty in like 3 seconds which I thought was weird. now the ac never got cold like normal and when the ac is on now it "boggs" the engine down big time as the compressor kicks on and off. im leaning towards the car is just over charged but I put the hose back on the low side and let some out. did it probably 5 times for 1 second or so each time. out of town right now so im looking for a shop to take it to tomorrow just figured id post here and maybe someone has experienced this before. also the car runs 100% fine with the ac off. even doing 70mph if I cut the AC on you can feel it bogg down the engine

Your AC is either overcharged or way under. Have you checked for leaks?

You maybe have a vacuum leak coming in from the orifice tube allowing heat to enter.

No I haven't checked anything really since im out of town. In the past I told her she needed to get the AC checked because it didnt feel that cold at times then a few minutes later it felt normal. Today was the first time it was really warm air. Im thinking the same thing we are either way over or way under. Im leani g towards way over since it blew off (loud venting sound) when adding the seco d can. I mean it shouldnt be blowing anything off if its under id assume

lets say its over filled by 1 1/4 -- 1 1/2 cans how long should I let it blow out do you think to let that much Freon out of the system? having trouble finding a shop open in this area tomorrow

You dont own a gauge that is sold with the cans at autozone or other part stores?

If so release it all out until near the end of the red section of the gauge. Just dont fully empty it out.. And you may need to rev a bit till it gets to that spot and to recharge it to normal temp.

I do at home but we re out of town right now. I just figured id try and find a shop that's open tomorrow and take it there. just looking for a good idea of what the issue is for when they give me a price and repair list

Its hard to really diagnose as it could be as simple as the thermostat going bad.

it could be compresor. when they start to lock up it will bog the motor bad. if it completely goes out it will lock up. and belt will scream and brake.

that pop could have been a oring inside it.

ya I was thinking the same thing. I did google and a lot of people have issues with their civic AC system. blows cold then doesn't blow cold off and on. so im starting think she was having normal civic AC issues and I overcharged the system. im going to let a good amount out and see what happens. id assume that would fix the issue to the point of having on off AC as she had before since I didn't have these other issues until I charged the system today. so yeah its locking up from having too much Freon in the system

if you let most out, the comp. will not turn on. so its like having it off.

i would not touch it. keep it off and go have it checked.

as if you let air in it will have to be evac. out. and that more expense.

shitt did not hit me until now, but if a seal did blow it will have to be evacted anyway.

air = moisture so i needs to be vacuumed out.
