i decided to pull out my manual to my 2 solobaric 12's l5 today and was reading and saw a thing that says "you should use a subsonic filter like the Kicker Swx" and i said oh well whats that. i did a search couldnt find anything.

i know what it does, it cuts out the inaudible frequencies thus causing less damage to subs. so does anyone have an idea of which subsonic filter i should get. thanks.

subsonic filters are usually on monoblock amps or any amp that may be designed to power a subwoofer. subsonic filters filter out low frequencies from 0 to whatever you set it at. subsonic filters are not required if your subwoofer is in a sealed box. it is recommended if your subwoofer is in a vented aka ported enclosure. not having one is okay as long as you dont blast your volume loud with a 20 hertz test tone playing. (or any low inaudible frequency)

I assume your amp doesn't come with one onboard?

Harrison Labs makes these inline things called FMODs...you can't adjust them, but you can manually add more if you neeed more attenuation or shift the Xover point.

His last sentence gave me the idea he knows what it does, just he doesn't know where to find one.

Like has already been posted if you're running a sealed enclosure you shouldn't need one at all.

If you're running a ported enclosure then what it the enclosure tuned to? (this will determine where a SSF [subsonic filter] should be set)
