I was snooping around the other day in a computer geeks forum similar to this one but only talking about game cracks rather than car audio and some f*cker job in some spyware to my computer. I do have spysweeper in my computer, just the trail version. But the problem is I keep going back and forth with two pop up maker/ programs, one called Gator(gain) and **** live some **** site or something. Now when spy sweeper deletes them they'll be back on my desktop the next day with more popups. Does anybody have any solutions/advice for me. I need to setup my firewall agian but I've got to wait another week. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Start with a good firewall (Norton does wonders), that helps with alot of the problems. Otherwise I have ad aware pro. run it about every week and your problems shoud go away.

wonders if you got Gator through here....btw, where's that thread from yesterday ???? Deleted....??? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/censored.gif.f9ad8e7c6db58c5530c5a0a20a3b5baf.gif

Until you totally exterminate Gator from your system, it will keep coming back like a bad disease. Once you uninstall Gator, you'll STILL have to go through your registry and delete all Gator references. You'll notice how much quicker your PC is too....

download a program called regcleaner. install it and use it , its real basic . all u do is go to remove tab--- and from a list of give software find the one u dont want say gator. and click the remove button at the bottom of the page.

Get ad-aware and a good firewall. and dont download those stupid popups where it asks you to install if it isnt anything from microsoft or macromedia.

ok I got rid of spy sweeper and got ad-aware. It did find somethings that spysweeper didn't get rid of. As soon as a I got rid of it that live player loaded itself back into my computer and some other **** site popups came up. I got rid of the gator I believe once in for all but the live player isn't gone. So I un-installed it and deleted everything having to do with live player but their must be a file hidden somewhere in my hard drive that keeps generating it. Do you have any sugguestions from here and possibly some advice on a pop-up blocker.

Norton Internet Security (Personal Firewall) 2003.

Has the firewall, and ad blocking all built into one.

Works great.

I get no ad's or pop-up's here.

And yes, a pop up ad here on this very site practically installs Gator for you.

One ad I have a severe issue with.

May also want to look into Spybot Search and Destroy.

I have ran this for some time, and am completely spyware (gator) free.

get it here : http://www.safer-networking.org/

take it easy,

We don't intentionally advertise for any spyware company. The "Gator" ad came from our ad agent "ValueClick.com". It has since been removed and I apologize for not catching it sooner. We are highly against any form of these software programs. Along with sending vital information off your computer, these programs can spawn new windows at any time, alter the HTML of the web site you are visiting, etc. Be careful downloading any software you are not completely sure of being safe. However, that's easier said than done these days. Recently, a virus type software was being spread by a company claiming to be Microsoft. Also, many who installed Kazaa automatically had spyware installed unknowingly. Even some known ad blocking programs contain spyware. Needless to say, I'm also against ad blocking software... Along with blocking ads, it also blocks cookies from affiliate programs. Those are a public web site's source of revenue for paying the bills. Ad blockers, along with spyware, that actually steals a web sites affiliate commissions, is hurting many web site owners as of late. I see ad blockers as being completely unfair to the web site owner. But don't get me wrong, I personally don't like ads anymore than the next guy, but they are essential in running a business such as this. Anyway, be careful, it's a jungle out there!
