I guess they will have an impact. Are they better? Depends on model and implementation etc, etc.

Burr Brown makes many models of DACs at many price levels, so being 'better' than a particular model it may be but one cannot make the blanket statement that it is better than all.

yeah, I understand what you are saying. I read some article that a sound engineer wrote regarding the differences between the two. most of it I couldn't understand. He stated that the bit wolfson's could be tweeked in different ways making them preferable. still don't know what that means??? oh well

all 2008 excelons have bit wolfson, however, may not be the exact model used in the the test. As you stated earlier, One can't say the entire line is better or worse. here's a link to Kenwood kdc-x692, scroll down the spec sheet. I didn't see the model number of the dac.
