Anybody actually made the switch to Vonage??

We're thinking about making the switch to Vonage after seeing a couple of monthly phone bills in the amount of $200 thanks to our 14yo son.

Anybody have any experience with Vonage? On their site, you have a couple of options to choose from for equipment. You can choose the standard equipment when you sign up, which is free, or if you pay a little extra, you can get a supposedly better/upgraded V-Portal adapter. The free adapter is previously used/refurbished and certified for resale.

Is it worth it to go with the digital adapter for an extra $10, or does the free one work fine?

I'm not sure about the adapter question. But my family switched to Vonage and then switched back.

The problems we had were that we lose power in MI in storms, and no power = no internet = no phone. Also, whenever our internet dropped due to comcast being dumb, which was a lot, so did our phones.

Ohh man, that's not good. I don't think I'll have too many outage issues like that living in Cali, but still, you've got some valid points.

Anybody else?

we have vonage it's great never had any problems and the bill is the same every month 24.00 unlimited nationwide and call to germany and Europe every feature imaginable we have the linsys wireless router that you can get through them nice little router for cheap crisp clear calls no lag its great

Vonage blew big balls for me too. Poor connection with horrible latency. Sucked up bandwith like a mofo. I have Verizon now, $40 per month and unlimited calls w/ all the bells and whistles.

I have vonage, works great. It all depends on your internet connection. I have comcast, so I get like 4mb download speeds.

Probably why some other here had problems, crappy *** DSL or something.

If you have cable internet, I would recommended vonage.

If the power goes out, then use your cell phone.

Sweet. We've got Cox cable for our internet, and it's been good to us for a while now.
