Any benefits from running 12 gauge wire!

Hey, everyone i have 2 sizes of wires to run my sub 16 gauge and 12 gauge what? if any benefits are there from running 12 compared too 16 ive been told maybe a GAIN of decibel or 2 any info would help .

Whoever told you that was throughoughly wrong. Bigger gauge, just like primary wire, allow you to carry more power. IIRC, there was a size chart at the top of the wiring sub-forum...

A decibel or two is laughable.

You might gain .1db (yes, one tenth) if you were running high power into a very low impedance load.

It won't make any audible difference, and probably not any difference at all.

it could make a difference(but not likely), i wouldn't want to lose a .1 db over speaker wire thats $.25 a foot

Well.

I have no idea what his system is, but let's assume he's running a true RMS of 1000 watts to his sub, and his wire run is 4 feet long, at 2 ohms.

If he switched from 16 gauge wire to 12 gauge wire he would gain roughly .08 dB. So if that's important to you go for it.

Keep in mind that anything less than 1 dB is inaudible.
