Seems like AVG is pretty vulnerable to many of the newer hoax malware infections going around (i.e. Antivirus XP 2009, MS Antivirus, etc.) ... Seeing tons of computers running Norton and AVG coming in with those infections and, given the degree of infection, we end up reformatting them most of the time. Backup and restore at our store is $140 ... Avast! is not as popular, but given the problems AVG has been having lately, I'd be inclined to recommend it over AVG.

Of course, if you really want to be safe, you're better off shelling out the dough for something like Kaspersky or NOD32 ...

They all work w/ 64-bit Windows ... Avast! has native 64-bit support, AVG runs in 32-bit mode.

Thanks, I think I was running Avast before and it only had 32-bit support when I upgraded to vista. Figured I would wait a while until some options were available.

Friend has trend Micro........................I will stick with Kaspersky.

Also to OP, I would do Avast as my dad used it for awhile with no problems. I had AVG and got a ton of virus's with it. Had to reformat quite a few times till I broke down and paid to get a good anti-virus. Haven't had a problem in 7 months since using Kaspersky.

Don't you people do weekly virus scans? Between Avast, firewall, and weekly virus scans I have no problems.

I have mine setup to do it daily. I also do all my banking on my computer, so I will pay for what works the best.
